cody koteles nips matt benard by inches at ppms
Imperial, PA (September 18) The Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stock feature was decided by inches on Saturday night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Coming to the finish line with race traffic between them, Cody Koteles from Stockdale nosed Matt Benard from Oakdale at the line by .008 seconds in earning his fourth feature victory of the season.
Other race night winners included Garret Paugh from Elkins, WV in the Rohrich Automotive RUSH Late Model feature event, his first of the season. The RUSH Sprints made their second visit of the season with Blaze Myers from Franklin winning his first race at the track. The RUSH Modifieds also visited with Chas Wolbert of Howland, Ohio again winning for the third time in their seven visits. , Nick Kocuba of Burgettstown topped the ADMAR Pro Stocks for the third time this year. Bill Tennant from Colliers, WV continued his dominance in the Crawford Auto Repair Open Fours with his tenth feature win of the season. Pittsburgh’s Travis Clark was the winner in the All Ways Safe Young Guns for the fourth time.
Top runners Joe Martin and Garret Paugh led the 20-lap Rohrich Automotive RUSH Late Model feature to the green flag with Martin leading from the start. Martin led throughout the event with Paugh directly behind, shadowing his every move. In race traffic with the white flag in sight, Martin slipped high off of the fourth corner which allowed Paugh to make his winning move. Paugh would earn the win, his fourth at the track. Martin settled for a close second, ahead of point leader Daryl Charlier, Philip Bubeck, and Tim Shaffer. Heat race wins went to Nico Dabecco and Christian Schneider.
While the RUSH Late Model race was decided on the white flag, the Priority Equipment Rental Hobby Stock feature was decided at the finish line. Cody Koteles had taken command early in the event but had been turning back a challenge from Matt Benard. On the final lap, the two leaders had caught race traffic. Benard had nosed during the final lap, but Koteles charged back and squeezed his way between the cars and was inches ahead at the line in earning the win. Point leader Frank Magill was third over Chloie Jones, and Gary Koteles. Benard and Magill were heat winners.
The RUSH Sprint main event was also decided late in the race. Blaze Myers led the way through the event but was feeling a strong challenge from John Mollick. In the closing laps, the two made slight contact with Mollick spinning to bring out a late caution. Teenager Myers would score his first win at the track over Gale Ruth, Jr., Chad Ruhlman, Jarod Larson, and Zach Morrow. Ruhlman and Mollick were heat winners.
The RUSH Modified main event saw just six of the nine cars start the main event after three cars were damaged in a turn three wreck in the heat race won by Justin Shea. The feature event went to Chas Wolbert, who has won 13 of the 41 races run at the track for the division. Point leader Shea was second over Chelsie Kriegisch, Tony Tatgenhorst, and Jacob Jordan.
Point leader Nick Kocuba was the winner of the 15-lap ADMAR Pro Stock feature for the 19th time in his career. Kocuba held off a late challenge from Brian Huchko who settled for second. Noah Brunell, Jordan Perkins, and Jackson Billyk trailed at the finish. Huchko was the heat winner.
Point leader Bill Tennant continued his dominance of the Crawford Auto Repair Open Fours, winning his tenth feature of the season. His wife, April Tennant, was close behind at the finish in finishing second, over Hemi Kineston, Kyle Janas, and Eric Reynolds.
Travis Clark was the All Ways Safe Young Guns winner for the fourth time, over point leader Logan Koteles, Emmie Laboon, Cameron Hollister, and Gavin Kokolis.
