After Mother Nature put a difficult end to the program last week, the fastest cars on dirt would return to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for take two of the Falconi’s Outlaw 410 Winged Sprint Car Series. PPMS would see qualifying, five heat races, and seven feature events. Tim Shaffer (28), from Aliquippa, would out-distance a field of 16 410 Winged Sprint Cars to pick up the win. Zach Morrow (27M), from Gibsonia, would bring home the win for the RUSH Sprint Car Series, while defending RUSH Late Model champion, Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, snagged another win to keep him atop the point standings once again. The “Midway Missile” Daryl Charlier (114) brought home the checkered flag in the ADMAR Pro Stock division, while Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, got the win for the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks. Philip Bubeck (2L), from Washington, continued to dominate the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder division, picking up another win, and his younger brother, Noah Bubeck (2), continued his domination in the All Ways Safe Young Guns division and brought home the win. 

 

Sye Lynch (42), from Apollo, would set the fast-time in qualifying for the Falconi’s Outlaw 410 Winged Sprint Car Series with a time of 15.298. Jack Sodeman Jr (23JR), from North Jackson, Ohio was only 0.233 behind Lynch (42) with a time of 15.531. Less than a second would separate the top 10 in qualifying. Shaffer (28) and Gary Kriess (55) would win each heat race. In the 20-lap feature, Brandon Spithaler (22) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second place was Shaffer (28). Dan Kuriger (08) would start in third, while Lynch (42) would start in fourth, Lee Jacobs (81) would start in fifth, and Carl Bowser (11) would complete the top three starting rows. When the green flag dropped, the field didn’t even make it through turn two before the first caution came out for Jared McFarland (250) who hit the wall in turn two. A complete restart would ensue. When the green flag dropped again, Shaffer (28) would grab the early lead. The field would get one lap in the books when another caution would slow the pace for Kriess (55) who went for a wild ride in turn one. Kriess (55) was okay but his car, not so much. Shaffer (28) would lead the field on the restart and when the field returned to green-flag action, Shaffer (28) would retain the lead. Lap three had Shaffer (28) still leading, Lynch (42) in second, Spithaler (22) in third, Jacobs (81) in fourth, and Bowser (11) in fifth. At the midpoint of the event, Shaffer (28), Lynch (42), and Bowser (11) were running one, two, and three respectively, as they made their way through lapped-traffic. Shaffer (28) had a half of a straight away lead by lap 14 and would increase his lead to a whole straightaway by lap 17. After the two early cautions in the event, the next 17 laps would run under the green flag. Shaffer (28) would lead all laps of the event, bringing home the win. Following him to the line was Lynch (42) in second, Bowser (11) in third, Jacobs (81) in fourth, Kuriger (08) in fifth, Brandon Matus (13M) in sixth, Sodeman Jr (23JR) in seventh, Brent Matus (33) in eighth, Rick Holley (85) in ninth, and David Jones (76) would complete the top 10. Notables: 16 cars started the feature but only the top six finished on the lead lap!

 

In the RUSH Sprint Car Series 15-lap feature, Morrow (27M) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Gale Ruth (14). Steve Pelly (21) would start in third, while Alan Dellinger (8) would start in fourth, Brian Hartzell (69) would start in fifth, and Jeremy Weaver (41) completed the top three starting rows. When the green flag waved, Morrow (27M) would keep the lead. With Morrow (27M) still leading on lap two, Ruth (14) was still in second, and sixth-starting Weaver (41) had already made his way up to third. The top three would remain the same through lap nine, and on lap 11, Morrow (27M) would catch the tail of the nine-car field and begin to pick his way through lapped-traffic. Morrow (27M) would go the distance, leading all 15 laps of the event to pick up another PPMS RUSH Sprint Car Series win. He was followed to the line by Ruth (14) in second, Weaver (41) in third, Dellinger (8) in fourth, Pelly (21) in fifth, Hartzell (69) in sixth, Brandon Shughart (29) in seventh, Matt Sherlock III (55) in eighth, and Tyler Newhart (13N) would complete the nine-car field. 

 

The RUSH Late Model Dirt Series saw a field of 23 cars and in the 20-lap feature, Colby Beighey (36B), from Taylor, Michigan, would start on the pole. John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, would line up to the outside in second place. The second row consisted of Tommy Schirnhofer (8S) starting in third place, and Cole Petrelle (184), from Weirton, West Virginia, would start in fourth. When the green flag dropped, the caution would come out just as fast for a pile up in turn two. A complete restart would take place and on attempt number two, Mollick (60M) would take the lead on the start. With Mollick (60M) still leading on lap five, Schirnhofer (8S) was in second, Petrelle (184) was in third, and eighth-starting Policz (14B) was now up to fourth. A caution would come on lap six for a car that had trouble in turn two. Mollick (60M) would choose the inside on the restart and he would keep the lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions, while Policz (14B) had an awesome restart and would follow Mollick (60M) into second place. Policz (14B) would steal the lead on lap 15 and another caution would slow the pace with three laps remaining. Policz (14B) would lead the field on the restart and he would keep the lead when the green light came on. With two laps to go, the event’s final caution came out for Tim Shaffer (45) who had trouble in turn four. Policz (14B) and Schirnhofer (8S) would line up one and two for a two-lap shootout finish. Policz (14B) would come out on top and pick up another PPMS win, as he stole the lead back on the last lap of the event. Following him to the line was Schirnhofer (8S) in second only 0.710 seconds behind Policz (14B), Petrelle (184) in third, Logan Zarin (1Z) in fourth, Ben Scott (80) in fifth, Bryan Hoffman (15H) in sixth, Beighey (36B) in seventh, Drew Koteles (64K) in eighth, Eric Hamilton Jr (33X) in ninth, and Brian Gobel (20G) rounds out the top 10. The heat race winners were Mike Duritsky (90J), Policz (14B), and Schirnhofer (8S). Notables: Bryan Hoffman (15H) started seventeenth and finished in sixth. Logan Zarin (1Z) was involved in an early-race crash, he pitted under caution, would come back out before the green flag to tag the field and finished fourth!

 

In the ADMAR Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Todd Weldon (45), from Monongahela, would be the pole-sitter. Nick Kocuba (10), from Bulger, would start to the outside in second place. Daryl Charlier (114) would start in third place, while Steve D’Apolito (84) would start in fourth, Ryan Moyer (13X), from Portersville, would start in fifth, Jake Simmons (69X), from Beaver Falls, would start in sixth, and John Gill (19G), from Burgettstown, rounded out the seven-car field, as Gill (19G) was making his ADMAR Pro Stock debut. When the green flag waved, Weldon (45) would keep the early lead. Lap four had Weldon (45) still leading, Charlier (114) now in second, Kocuba (10) now in third, and D’Apolito (84) in fourth. The top five would remain the same for the majority of the event. Lap 14 had Weldon (45) still leading, when he was forced to pull into the pits for an unknown car issue, and Charlier (114) would take over the lead. Charlier (114) would lead the final lap of the event, en route to his first PPMS Pro Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by Kocuba (10) in second, D’Apolito (84) in third, Moyer (13X) in fourth, Simmons (69X) in fifth, Weldon (45) in sixth, and Gill (19G) in seventh. The Pro Stocks did not run a heat race. 

 

The Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks had a field of 16 cars and Frank Magill (05) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Mike Tropeck (47), from McDonald. Ben Anton (13), from Jefferson Hills, would start in third, while Ed Shelpman (17P), from Pleasant Hills, started in fourth, Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale, started in fifth, and Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, would complete the top three starting rows. When the green flag waved, Magill (05) would retain the early lead. Lap five had Magill (05) still leading, B. Anton (13) in second, eleventh-starting Stephen Shelpman (17S) in third, Twelfth-starting Cody Koteles (1K) in fourth, and E. Shelpman (17P) in fifth. On the next lap, S. Shlepman (17S) would take over second place behind Magill (05). Magill (05) began to deal with lapped-traffic on lap seven, and the event’s final caution would slow the pace on lap nine. With six laps remaining, Magill (05) would lead the field on the restart and he would keep the lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions. By lap 13, Magill (05) had a half of a straightaway lead over the rest of the field and he wouldn’t look back, picking up his first Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by S. Shelpman (17S) in second, C. Koteles (1K) in third, Robert Betz (22) in fourth, B. Anton (13) in fifth, Ed Shelpman (17P) in sixth, John Cain (06) in seventh, Matt Benard (15) in eighth, Tom Anton (64) in ninth, and Randy “Tank” DeBeardinis (121) rounds out the top 10. The Hobby Stocks did not run a heat race. 

 

The Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder feature had Chris Knight (78) starting on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was April Tennant (95), from Colliers, West Virginia. Lucas Weaver (11W) would start in third, while Derek Quigley (65) would start in fourth, Eric Rudolph (53) would start in fifth, Tanya Charlier (21), from Midway, would start in sixth, Bill Tennant (2) would start in seventh, Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, would start in eighth, and Philip Bubeck (2L) would round out the nine-car field. When the green flag waved, A. Tennant (95) had the lead at the line but the caution would come out, forcing a complete restart. When the green flag waved for attempt number two, A. Tennant (95) would take the lead. Lap five had A. Tennant (95) still leading, P. Bubeck (2L) now in second, and B. Tennant (2) now in third. P. Bubeck (2L) would eventually take over the lead and on lap 10, P. Bubeck (2L) would start to lap the nine-car field. P Bubeck would lead the field to another PPMS victory. He was followed to the line by A. Tennant (95) in second, Knight (78) in third, Quigley (65) in fourth, T. Charlier (21) in fifth, Rudolph (53) in sixth, Weaver (11W) in seventh, B. Tennant (2) in eighth, and Janas (88) completes the nine-car field. 

 

Noah Bubeck (2), from Washington, has simply dominated the All Ways Safe Young Guns division. He has won all of the Young Guns features this season and his winning streak goes all the way back to the Pittsburgher 100 weekend in October of 2019. In the Young Guns feature on Saturday night, Wyatt Mock (88) started on the pole. Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, started to his outside and in second place. Dylan Clipp (69) started in third place, and N. Bubeck completed the four-car field. When the green flag dropped, N. Bubeck (2) would take the early lead, but Mock (88) would take the lead away from him on lap two. On lap four, Mock (88) was sent to the pits when track officials penalized him for making contact with N. Bubeck (2) and it’s a no-contact division. This would raise controversy, as people were claiming that Mock (88) never made contact with N. Bubeck (2). N. Bubeck would lead the remaining laps of the event, en route to another PPMS win. He was followed to the line by Hollister (44) in second, Clipp (69) in third, and Mock (88) in fourth. The Young Guns did not run a heat race. 

 

Racing resumes at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile next Saturday, September 5, 2020, when Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive presents the Red Miley Rumble for the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series featuring twin features. PPMS will also be featuring the RUSH Sportsman Modified Dirt Series, with features only for the ADMAR Pro Stocks, Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks, the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and the All Ways Safe Young Guns.
