Open Four Championship, Outlaw 305 Sprints, RUSH Modifieds Next As Point Battles Wind Down At PPMS

Racing returns to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 23.  The CruiseAmerica Open Four division will compete in their biggest race, the Inaugural “Open Rules Four Cylinder Championship.”  The Outlaw 305 Sprints will be visiting to compete in “Open Wheel Mania,” and “Modisaures X” will be held for the RUSH Modifieds.  Point racing will take place for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, and Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.

Saturday, September 30 will be the final point race for 2017, featuring the “Tune-Up 20” for Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, in their final point race in preparation for the Pittsburgher 100.  The RUSH Modifieds will make their final visit of the season, and there will be Kids Bike Races.  Point racing will conclude for the season for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.

The 2017 racing season will conclude with the running of the 29th Annual Pittsburgher 100.  Qualifying events will take place on Friday, October 6, with features running on Saturday, October 7.  Highlighting the action will be the 100 lap, $20,000 to win, Pittsburgher 100 featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.  Joining the program will be the 30 lap Bill Hendren Memorial for the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Series, and the CruiseAmerica PENNational for the Homak Manufacturing Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Series.

Sponsorships are open for laps or positions in Saturday’s “Open Rules Four Cylinder Championship.”  Contact Matt Miley at mmiley99@comcast.net for complete information.  Normally just a trophy class, on this night the event will pay at least $300 to the winner, with a payoff set for 24 positions in the feature event.  A draw for starting positions will be used for the event, instead of their usual handicapped starts.  The event will still count towards track points.

In the competitive PPMS point system, a maximum point night is worth 100 points, but participation in a racing program earns a minimum of 70 points.  Jon Hodgkiss leads the Diehl Automotive Super Late Model points by 11 over Matt Dobnak, with just the September 30 event remaining.  Chris Lander is still mathematically within range of the top two, as all three would be first time titlists.  In the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Justin Lamb needs to just pull onto the track under his own power in one of the final two events to clinch his first track championship.  Lamb clinched the separate Sizzler Series title for the division in last Saturday’s event.  Defending Sunoco Sportsman champion Dave McManus leads Danny Rich by 21 points, as A.J. Poljak and Bill Robertson still have slim title hopes.  The closest point battle is in the Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, where Karlee Kovacs leads Stephen Shelpman by just four points, with last year’s champion Casey Grumling just 16 points out of the lead.  Ben Anton can defend his Imperial Heights Garage Young Gun title by starting one of the two remaining races.  The first CruiseAmerica Open Four title appears to be heading to Matthew Rubright, though Tom Anton is 32 points behind.

The 2017 fuels incentive continues to race on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.  Sponsored by Brian Bazell of Bazell Race Fuels, the fuel incentive program is open to each week to any race team in the RUSH Late Model, Sunoco Sportsman, and RUSH Modified divisions.  To be entered, teams must purchase at least five gallons of fuel at the track to be eligible, plus carry a Sunoco decal.  The highest finishing car that is entered and eligible will earn five gallons of the fuel that they purchased on each race night.
