PPMS Resumes Racing With Red Miley Rumble

Racing returns to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 26, with the running of the 11th Annual Red Miley Rumble for the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models.  The 35 lap main event will pay $3553 to the winner.  It will be the third and final race for the Diehl Automotive Super Series, as the race and the mini-series determines provisional starting positions for the season ending Pittsburgher 100.

The format for the Red Miley Rumble will be time trials, with heat races lined up straight up from the time trial results.  The top finishers will compete in a dash event, and how the drivers finish in the dash will determine the starting lineup for the feature.  The remaining heat race finishers will be lined up straight up by their heat race finish.

Previous winners of the Red Miley Rumble include Josh Richards, who was the inaugural winner in 2007.  Steve Baker won the event in 2008, with Bart Hartman winning in 2009.  Richards is the only two time winner of the event, adding a second score in 2010.  The 2011 winner was Davey Johnson, with Jared Miley winning in 2012.  Gregg Satterlee won the event in 2013, as John Mollick took the victory in 2014.  Keith Barbara won the 2015 event, and Michael Norris is the defending event champion.

Alex Ferree leads the Diehl Automotive Super Series points by three over Keith Barbara and Jared Miley, who are tied for second, with Jon Hodgkiss and Colton Flinner trailing.  Hodgkiss is the season point leader over Matt Dobnak, Chris Lander, John Flinner, and Tony Musolino.  Florida driver Mark Whitener is planning on making the trip to race in the Rumble.

Also on the August 26 card will be weekly point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.

The speedway was not in competition last Saturday, as it was a scheduled off week.  It was a decision that was made several months ago before the season started.  It ended up being a good decision not to race that night, as storms rolled through when the gates would have been opening.

With many area tracks wrapping up their regular season, Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will compete weekly through September, ending the season the first weekend in October.  The September schedule starts with the Labor Day weekend show on Saturday, September 2 featuring the “Fall Wing Fling” with the return of the 410 Outlaw Winged Sprints.  On Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9, the TRAXXAS Monster Truck Destruction Tour will be visiting, as weekly racing will not take place.  On Saturday, September 16, members of AAA will be guests of the speedway with discounted general admission for AAA Members, as the CarSmile Wiper Blades “Thunder on the Dirt” Vintage Racing Series will be visiting.  Saturday, September 23 will be “Open Wheel Mania” for Alternative Power Sources Outlaw 305 Sprints, with the RUSH Modifieds competing in “Modisaures X.”  Saturday, September 30 will be the final point race for 2017, featuring the “Tune-Up 20” for Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, with the RUSH Modifieds competing, as there will be Kids Bike Races.

The Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models will be in competition at each event in September, with their final Sizzler Series event taking place on September 16.  The Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours will also compete in each racing event in September.  The Sunoco Sportsman division will compete on September 2, September 23, and September 30.

The 2017 racing season will conclude with the running of the 29th Annual Pittsburgher 100.  Qualifying events will take place on Friday, October 6, with features running on Saturday, October 7.  Highlighting the action will be the 100 lap, $20,000 to win, Pittsburgher 100 featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, along with the 30 lap Bill Hendren Memorial for the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Series, and the Cruise America PENNational for the Homak Manufacturing Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Series.

Justin Lamb currently leads the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Model point standings, by five points over Daryl Charlier.  Dave McManus leads the Sunoco Sportsman standings by 6 points over Danny Rich.  In the Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Karlee Kovacs leads Casey Grumling by 8 points.  Ben Anton leads Kayla McManus by 6 points in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.  Matthew Rubright has the biggest lead in any of the divisions, showing the way by 25 points over Tom Anton in the CruiseAmerica Open Fours.

The 2017 fuels incentive continues to race on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.  Sponsored by Brian Bazell of Bazell Race Fuels, the fuel incentive program is open to each week to any race team in the RUSH Late Models and Sunoco Sportsman division.  To be entered, teams must purchase at least five gallons of fuel at the track to be eligible, plus carry a Sunoco decal.  The highest finishing car that is entered and eligible will earn five gallons of the fuel that they purchased on each race night.

For all racing programs, the gates open at 5:00 PM, with warm-ups at 6:00 PM and racing at 7:00 PM.  Follow us on Facebook at @PAMotorSpeedway or on Twitter at @PAMotorSpeedway for timely information updates.  The Twitter account is used extensively on race nights for live updates.  Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 412-279-RACE.  For complete information including ticket pricing information, please visit the track website at www.ppms.com .
