410 Winged Sprints Return for Wahl “Spring Wing Fling”

Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will return to action to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend with racing on Saturday, May 27, as Wahl Family Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing of Carnegie will present the “Spring Wing Fling.”  Featuring two divisions of winged sprints, the 410 Outlaw Winged Sprints will return for the second straight week, and will be joined by the limited sprints of the Alternative Power Sources Allegheny Sprint Tour.  Also on the program will be regular point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models and Sunoco Sportsman.  Also in action, competing in feature events only, will be the Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.   Presenting sponsor Wahl can be reached by calling 412-276-9245 or by visiting http://wahlheatingandcooling.com/

Logan Wagner from Harrisonville was the winner of last Saturday’s 410 Sprint feature event, making him the newest of the 46 different winners in the 98 open sprint car events at the track, which includes five non-winged races sanctioned by the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series who return on July 1.  The first sprint race was held the year the track opened, in 1979, and was won by Keith Kauffman.   Sye Lynch finished a close second on Saturday night, and his father Ed Lynch, Jr. leads the win list with 16.  With five 410 winged sprint races now on the schedule, points will be kept and a champion will be awarded.  The remaining events after this Saturday will be on June 10, the All Star Sprint event on July 22 which will award show up points only for all in attendance, and the September 2 “Fall Wing Fling.”

The best race of the night last Saturday was the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Model feature won by Midway’s Daryl Charlier from 12th starting position, with a last lap pass of Mike Reft.  Earlier in the race, Reft and Justin Lamb had an amazing, side by side battle for the race lead.  The new racing surface has provided racing from top to bottom, on one of the widest speedways in the country.  The win was Charlier’s 16th in the division, as he now has 51 feature wins at the track, between  four different divisions.  His point lead is three points over Lamb.

The Sunoco Sportsman feature last Saturday went to Jason Fosnaught from Tarentum, as he captured his first win at the track.  Dave McManus was a distant second, but leads the standings by one point over opening night winner A.J. Poljak.

With added divisions on Saturday’s card, the Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours will be in competition, but will race in feature events only.  The Super6 Late Models have been added to the card on a semi-regular basis, as the new and growing division provides entertaining racing.

The Diehl Automotive Super Late Models will not be in action the next two weeks, but last Saturday’s feature event saw Colton Flinner from Allison Park earn the victory.  It was his second in the Super Late Model division, adding to his 14 wins in the crate late models.  John Mollick leads the point standings by four points over John Flinner.

The following week will see the biggest race of the season for the Sunoco Sportsman division.  The Sixth Annual Ed Laboon Memorial for the Homak Manufacturing Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series will take place on Saturday, June 3.  The area’s richest event for the division will pay $2017 to the winner, with all feature starters earning at least $200.  Last year’s event, won by Todd Weldon, drew 58 entries.  The Alternative Power Sources Allegheny Sprint Tour will also visit on this night.  Also on the card, racing in feature events only, will be the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
