Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway
Champions Night Set For Saturday at PPMS
For immediate release
Imperial, PA
Join us this Saturday, June 15, 2019, when PPMS will honor the 2018 track champions, first-time feature winners, and announce the 2018 Sportsman of the Year during champions night. PPMS will be featuring, the Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive Outlaw Winged 410 Sprint Car Series who will be making their third appearance of the season and second in a row. Carl Bowser (11), from Freeport, picked up the win last week when he dominated the 20-lap feature event, practically lapping the fourth place car, as the race went green to the checkered flag. PPMS will also be featuring, the RUSH Sportsman Modified Series for their first outing of the season at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile. They were scheduled to race back in May but were rained out. Also on the card will be the Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series, the PPMS Pro Stocks, the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks, the Four Cylinders, and the Young Gun. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6 p.m., and the racing action will commence at 7 p.m
PPMS started the Sportsman of the Year award in 1989 when the Miley family first leased the race track. Ben, Red, and Matt Miley wanted to acknowledge a team, driver, sponsor, or employee who displayed sportsmanship during the previous race season. The Miley’s never have chosen the recipient of the award. Smokey Schemp, the PPMS Pit Steward, and Dow Carnahan, the legendary and late track announcer, would always select the winner (except for when Dow received it the year he retired from PPMS). Now, Jim Zufall, the current announcer, and Smokey select the winners.
After experimenting with the handicapped system for the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks, the Four Cylinders, and the Young Guns, PPMS will go back to the pill draw system for these classes on Saturday. All drivers will utilize the normal pill draw system. PPMS apologizes for any inconvenience or confusion.
