Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 10, 2018) – Jamie Ball recently made the trip with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com on its annual swing to the West Coast, meaning a lot of new tracks and learning along the way.

First on the schedule was three nights at Skagit Speedway in Skagit, Wash., during the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup June 21-23. Ball placed 20th in the feature on the opening night before charging from 12th to fifth place in a B Main on Night 2. He maneuvered to a fifth-place finish in a B Main during the finale, but the track promoter gave him a provisional to start the main event and he advanced to a 21st-place result.

“We had a blast at Skagit Speedway,” Ball said. “The track was very racy and it was nice to see a promoter like Steve Beitler running every aspect of Dirt Cup. We were overall happy with our results as 53 very fast sprint cars showed up to compete. We are looking forward to returning to Skagit in the near future.”

White Lightning Motorsports traveled to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., the following weekend for the Fred Brownfield Classic. Ball locked himself into both features, logging a 16th-place finish on June 29 before a 21st-place result capped the weekend the next night.

“Grays Harbor Raceway also was a very fun and racy joint,” he said. “We got better as each night went on and had a top-10 run going on Saturday until we cut a right rear tire down and wouldn’t be able to finish the A Main. It would have been great to get a top-10 finish, but in racing stuff happens out of your control sometimes.”

The team’s most recent trip was to Gallatin Speedway last weekend for the Grizzly Nationals. Ball maneuvered from 22nd to an 18th-place run on Friday before he powered from 16th to 11th on Saturday.

“The track at Gallatin Speedway was another small track and we had speed,” he said. “I just wasn’t able to do my job in the heat races to set us up with good starting positions for the A Mains. Both nights during the A Main it took rubber and I just struggled to pass many cars with the track like that.

“Our first West Coast swing with the ASCS National Tour was an experience and an education. We were able to qualify for six of seven A Mains. On the track we learned more in three weeks than I feel I could learn by racing short tracks back home all summer. I am really looking forward to racing back in the Midwest, taking what I learned and applying it at tracks I have experience at. Away from the track my girlfriend, family, crew and I all enjoyed seeing the beautiful sights the West Coast has to offer. I am forever grateful to everyone at L & J Enterprise Inc. and White Lightning Motorsports LLC for this amazing opportunity we have during this 2018 season.”

Ball’s next race will be at Gillette Thunder Speedway in Gillette, Wyo., this Wednesday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour before he returns to his home track of Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday.
