Lightning Strikes!!
81 Speedway weekly racing is heading to a photo finish down the stretch!
In the Primal Jerky Mini Stock division once again the two young guns Jayce Reimer and Gratton Dalton battled it out. Dalton grabbed the early lead as Reimer kept him in striking distance and with a late restart Reimer capitalized and ended up getting the win as they made contact down the front stretch to the checkers!! R.C. Esparza strong in 3rd.
Next up was the HeyGlassman Stock Cars, boasting a 27 car field there was racing action all over the race surface. After 7 Cautions and 25+ minutes and rain on the way the race had to be cut a little short (never what anyone wants), The points battle at the top is shaping up to be a BarnBurner as Beau Davis got to the front and let the rest of the field battle it out behind him. Clint Smith and Boone Evans appeared to simultaneously loop on entry of turn 3, which allowed Scott Miller to power to second place, Aaron Esparza (Desparaza) with a strong 3rd place finish. I can’t leave out “the kid” Colten Kelly grabbing what was his best finish in 4th, and Craig Miller rounded out the top 5. The point battle is really close as we head into the last couple of weeks. Make sure you come watch.
The Alternative Pest Management USRA Modifieds were quickly ushered unto the track. With lightning nearby they quickly got to the action. Wyatt Gaggero took to the point early as the 3G of Gemmil battled until mechanical failure. Point Leader Tad Davis lost a brake rotor and ended up along the wall with damage. Bryce Schniepp who keeps knocking on the door was again challenging the front runners. PayDay Paden Phillips who won at Humboldt the night before had his BillsBuilt chassis poised to double up until the 7th starting #65 of Tyler Davis had a great restart, gained the lead, and went onto victory. T. Davis 1st, P. Phillips 2nd, B. Schneipp 3rd.
As the storm quickly approached, the USRA B Modifieds headed onto the 3/8 mile. The race was fast paced from the drop of the green flag. Gabe Hodges in his J2 chassis did not look back and cruised to a victory. Mark Shafman drove from 9th to get 2nd and Jacob Hodges in 3rd.
Thank you to Jack and Ginger Lamb for your ongoing support and track prep help. Gene Gene the Welding Machine, thank you for keeping the speedway intact. Thanks to all officials...Travis in turn 2 for running a marathon each night, Joey for getting yelled at all night, the tow truck and push truck guys that are always there when ya need a lift, the concession workers, the ticket sellers and takers, and all crews, drivers, and fans!! We hope everyone got home safe.
As every race night comes to a close, a few racers and a bunch of family and staff all gather at Tie Rod Tavern to just have a good time. This night seemed to bring a few more than normal, and it was a great time. The storm was crazy as we all huddled inside, they say lighting doesn’t strike twice in same place but I’m not so sure…… the speedway lights next to tavern were hit while we were in there, wires were coming down and was unbelievably loud and shook the structure. Nobody was hurt but we will assess any property damage this week! Until next time…..
