76TH TURKEY NIGHT RETURNS TO VENTURA NOVEMBER 24; THORSON TAKES OVER POINT LEAD
The 76th running of the “Turkey Night Grand Prix” is set for November 24 at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway and four drivers remain in the hunt for the 2016 UAC National Midget Championship.
Realistically, Tanner Thorson and Spencer Bayston are the primary combatants, separated by just nine points, although Chad Boat and Brady Bacon have mathematical opportunities, despite their 65-point deficit behind the leader.
Thorson finished second to Bacon in Friday night’s “Jason Leffler Memorial” at Wayne City, Ill. and jumped ahead of Bayston in the standings due to Bayston’s eighth-place finish.
Bacon took home the $20,000 winner’s share of Friday’s race at Wayne County Speedway, leading the final 33 of the 40 laps in his FMR Racing Beast/Toyota. Thorson, Carson Macedo, Chris Windom and Andrew Felker rounded out the “top-five” at the checkered flag. Pole starter Windom led the first seven laps. The race had been postponed one night by heavy Thursday rains.
The November 24 race will be the 13th for the USAC National Midgets at Ventura, but the first National Midget event at the seaside oval since 1997 – “Turkey Night’s” last appearance at Ventura – a race won by driver Billy Boat and car owner John Lawson, this year’s “Turkey Night” co-grand marshals.
