Ventura Raceway Day Caps Off Final ARP Battle At The Beach
(Oxnard, CA, Noel Dawson, September 13) On September 29th, Ronnie Gardner and Cody Swanson will take to Ventura Raceway’s 1/5th mile high-banked oval to battle for the 2012 ARP King of the Beach title. On September 30th, Ventura Raceway will hit Zoey’s Café in downtown Ventura for Ventura Raceway Day. From 12 PM to 3 PM on Sunday September 30th, come out and mingle with Ventura Raceway drivers and fans and celebrate the crowning of Ventura Raceway’s first champion of 2012. Zoey’s will have a full array of food and drink available in addition to Ventura Raceway videos from Loud Pedal Video playing on their big screen.
Owned by the Hoganson family, since 2006 Zoey’s Café has been one of Ventura’ finest establishments for food, drink, and live musical acts. Located at 185 E. Santa Clara in downtown Ventura, Zoey’s has been voted the best live music venue in Ventura ten years running. It’s been featured in national publications include Sunset Magazine. On a nightly basis, they feature local, national, and international musical acts.
In three ARP Battle at the Beach races this season, Ronnie Gardner had been the man to beat. And by the man to beat, we mean he’s won every single race. It hasn’t been without a challenge as Danny Ebberts and Cody Swanson have been right behind Gardner every step of the way. Going into the final ARP Battle at the Beach, Gardner will hold a 95 point lead of Swanson.
The top 3 in Senior Sprint points are separated by just 50 points. Clif Warren took a 30 point lead over Victor Davis after his win on September 8th. Davis, who won 3 features in a row earlier in the season, struggled on the 8th getting caught up on two incidents not of his own doing. 20 more points back in third is Davis’ teammate, Bruce Douglass. Davis will have to rebound quick as there are just 3 Senior Sprint races left in the 2012 season.
On this night, the IMCA Modified championship will be decided. At press time, Jack Parker has a 20 point lead over Brad Prows. On August 25th, Parker dodged major issues as his regular #55jr was eliminated in hot laps with mechanical issues. Fellow competitor Randy Gens stepped in and offered his car to Parker. Gens’ machine combined with a rough and tumble feature event, allowed Parker to lose just 3 points to Prows, who finished runner-up.
The Sport Compact championship fight also took a turn on August 25th as Zack Peterson took the feature win and points lead from Jess Carlucci. At press time, the lead is just 25 points. The Sport Compacts have seen some new faces up front this season as James Adler, Michaela Stanton, and “Derby” Mike Stanford have all shown some muscle with strong runs up front.
Providing the musical entertainment throughout the weekend will be Dr. Surf. Dr. Surf is based locally out of Ojai and is a mixture of reggae and surf rock. They’ll be playing at intermission on Saturday night and throughout the day at Zoey’s on Sunday.
Ventura Raceway day at Zoey’s Café will cap off an exciting weekend where we’ll crown the King at the Beach. Join us for a weekend of great racing, music, and food.
