Shawn Jett, Chuck Kimble & Jesse Wisecarver Claim Big Wins at Tyler County Speedway

Over 120 race cars would pack the pit area at America’s Baddest Bullring on a cool and gloomy Sunday Night as we celebrated the Memorial Weekend with a trio of special events. On the card was the 27th running of the Topless 50 for Super Late Models along with the 20th running of the Eaton/Childers King of the Ring for FASTRAK Late Models followed by the 17th edition of the Dickson Classic in honor of Paul and Ellanora Dickson in the UMP Modified division. Picking up wins were Shawn Jett, Chuck Kimble, Jesse Wisecarver, Lance Weppler, Tyler Spencer, Tanya Colvin, Leah Brightwell and Carson Thomas.

It was the 27th running of the fan favorite Topless 50 and the first ten laps of the event would see three different leaders including Shawn Jett, Jacob Hawkins, and Henry Hornsby. Hawkins would slow to bring out a caution relegating him to the tail while Hornsby would expire an engine while at the helm. This would turn the lead over to Jett as talented racer would look to grab his biggest career win to date. All eyes were on Hawkins who would be rallying from the tail along with Kyle Thomas who was starting in the 17th position. As the closing laps would wind down it was Jett pacing the field with Hawkins and Thomas now glued to Jett’s bumper. But when the checkered flag fell it was Jett of Pennsboro, WV aboard the Sam Irvin owned Slicks/Jam Oil & Gas/ Pit Stop/ XR 1 Rocket adding his name to the coveted Topless 50 royalty. Following Jett across the line was Hawkins (from the tail), Kyle Thomas (from 17th), Brian Baumberger and Ed Shuman.

A great race in the 20th Annual Eaton/Childers King of the Ring would see a host of young guns at the point with Hayden Jacobs leading early with Luke Hyre and Logan Hitt in pursuit. At the races mid-point several new faces began to emerge in the form of Chuck Kimble and Derrick Shaw. Kimble of Rayland, Ohio in his first visit to the ‘Bullring’ in 2021 would take to the high side and power around Jacobs on a restart and once at the point would pick up his first win of the season. Following Kimble across the stripe was a hard charging Derrick Shaw, Hayden Jacobs, Luke Hyre and AJ Spagnuola. Kimble piloted the Ken Chernik owned 5x Rocket to the West Virginia University of Parkersburg Victory Lane.

A tremendous battle among two of the best open wheel racers in the region would see Jesse Wisecarver and Rich Michael Jr. do battle for the duration in the 17th Annual Dickson Classic. The talented duo would race tooth and nail thru and around traffic in the star-studded field but when the checkered flag fell it was Zanesville, Ohio’s Jesse Wisecarver aboard the Bruce Takach owned RST/ McHugh Chevy Dealer/ Denny’s Restaurant/ Longhorn nipping last weeks winner Rich Michael Jr. at the line. Following the duo was Eddie Carrier, Cody Brightwell and Paul Baker.

Always like to see a new winner and in the Sigler Fabrication EDGE Hotmod division presented by Poske Performance Parts that is what the racing gods would offer up as Middlebourne, WV’s Tyler Spencer would park his 53t machine in the West Virginia University Parkersburg Victory Lane. A flawless performance as the driver of the Dale’s Mill Service/ Tiffany’s Tinkerings/ K&J Auto/ Joe Travis Dump Truck/ Nash Run Angus Farms/ Mike Britton/ Chris & Kayelynn Gresham/ Harris machine would set fast time, win his heat race and lead every lap of the feature to secure his first ever win. Following Spencer across the stripe was Logan Reed, Jeff Gorrell, Daniel Muldrew and Mickey Thorpe.

Lance Weppler of Marietta, Ohio would go 3 for 3 at the ‘Bullring’ in 2021 as the talented wheelman aboard the Zimmerview Farm/ Auto Plus Machine Shop/ Parmar/ Wood’s Heating and Cooling/ Valley Vapory/ Weppler Brothers Race Engines/ Kryptonite Race Car would notch his third win in a row. It would not come easy as early season feature winner Brandon McGrady would apply steady pressure throughout the main event. Weppler would grab the checkered followed by McGrady, newcomer Nick Parsons, Steven Dotson, and returning after a hiatus Mitch Ward with a solid top five.

Picking up her second win of the season in the Bullring Bombers was Tanya Colvin as the driver of the t47 would hold off a pesky Billy Pratt to secure the popular win. Colvin wheels the Mick Baker owned 08 Cobalt sponsored by Jackson Towing/ D&D Custom/ Jeremy Perine and was followed by Pratt, Joey Price, Jake Tidd and Jason Frazier.

Due to wet track conditions and some draining issues the youngsters of the MWRA would take to the big track for the first time in 2021. In the Phillips Drug Junior division it was Leah Brightwell grabbing her first feature win ever over Blake Tasker and Cruz Thomas. In the Senior class it was Carson Thomas garnering the win ahead of Keith Powell and Addison Tasker.

No racing at the Tyler County Speedway on Saturday, June 5th as we take a Pit Stop and head to the West Virginia Motor Speedway for the Historic 100. America’s Baddest Bullring will return on Saturday Night, June 11th for FREE General Admission night featuring the 14th Annual Tammy Clegg Memorial for Hotmods and awesome KIDS Rides in Race Cars!
