Meyer Takes Win In Faster Pastor Event

08/09/2019 (Auburn MI) Mid Michigan area churches converged at Tri-City Motor Speedway for the annual Faster Pastor Event. Eleven Pastors had to opportunity to compete in TCMS prepared front-wheel drive bomber stocks with their congregations raising charitable funds to determine starting spots in the respective heat races. Auburn United Methodist’s Rob Nystrom, Immanuel Lutheran Ministries’ Ed Meyer, and Mt Haley Church of God’s David Auckerman won their heat races which locked them into the main event. The final spot was given to Messiah’s Ed Doerner by virtue of his church having the most donations for their chosen charity. Nystrom took the early lead in the six lap feature but faced strong challenges from the other three. Nystrom overdrove turn two in the second half of the race opening the door for Meyer to steal the top spot. Meyer held on to take the win, the big trophy, and the special checkered flag. He finished ahead of Doerner, Aukerman, and Nystrom. Although Meyer won the race, area charities were the real winners as an event record of over $115,000 was raised to assist the various charities.

In other racing action Friday night, #28 Kyron DeShano all but assured that he will be the 2019 Champion in the 6-9 year old Walker’s Ideal Trophies Mini Wedge division. As he did last week, he dominated his heat and feature event. Second heat race winner #12 Morgan Bujarski, once again had to settle for a runner-up finish. #3 Jett Gohr, #26 Brennan DeShano, #27 Pierson DeShano completed the top five. In the 10-14 year old class, 10-year old #2e Easton Murray also likely sealed her 2019 Championship as she finished ahead of #99 Braydon Buehrly in both the heat race and feature.

In the SuspensionMAXX Street Stocks, it once again took four qualifying heats and to whittle down the 31 competitors to the 20 that would take the green flag in the classes penultimate event of the evening. Point leader #20 Kyle Thomas, #50 Jake Thompson, #85 Al Spiekerman, #75 Kenny Keller won the qualifying heats with #02 Will Stanley the victor of the B-Main. Spiekerman took advantage of his front row starting spot in the feature and led the first eleven laps before a caution bunched the field. The restart ended up shuffling Spiekerman to an eventual ninth place finish. Thompson was the first one to get by Spiekerman as he left the field behind on his way to the checkered flag. Thompsons win was short-lived as a fellow competitor tried to make a claim on Thompsons motor. Thompson refused the claim and therefore forfeited his win giving it to second place finisher Thomas. #41 Ryan Nethers, #23 Rick Spencer, Keller, and #8 Aaron Spearling became the official top five finishers. The win unofficially secured Thomas’s first TCMS Championship.

Current Pro Stock point leader Nate Murphy jumped behind the wheel of the #9r owned by Curtis Roberts in the ARP Late Model Division Friday night. He earned a front row start in the 30 lap feature. Murphy found his rhythm in the first half of the caution plagued race until he lead was taken by #24 Alex Hupert. A caution late in the race would end up hurting Hupert as he ended up being the cause of a caution and sent the rear of the field. This handed the lead over to Marcoullier who had just taken the runner-up spot from Murphy a lap prior to the caution. Marcoullier led the final green flag laps to another TCMS feature win for 2019. Marcoullier, #27 Eric Spangler, and point leader #19 Derrick Hilliker were victors in the preliminary heat races.

The Allstar Performance IMCA Modified feature event was the final event of the evening. #84 Mike Stevenson led early in the 20-lapper before #42 Craig Vance and #D42 Don Sautter took control. The two battled hard along with #33 Todd Matheson throughout the event. Sautter eventually found grip in the bottom groove that helped separate him from the field and eventually to his second win of 2019. Behind Sautter was Matheson, Vance, #79 Nate Jones, and seventeenth place starter #4s Toby Steele. Stevenson, Matheson, and #18 Chase Burda collected their heat race gold.
