Eric Lake Dominates Figure-8 at Tri-City Motor Speedway Motor Speedway

05/22/2015 (Auburn MI) Memorial Day weekend kicked off with a full slate of racing at Tri-City Motor Speedway. 87 of the area’s best drivers convened on the 3/8ths clay oval to compete along with drivers that came for the opportunity to pocket $418 for winning on the Figure-8 track.

The Figure-8 was the final feature of the night and the first leg of the three part season. #X5 Eric Lake started on the pole and would never be challenged through the entire 18 laps. His dominance led to some hair-raising moments through the intersection that resulted without incident. This was Lake’s third F8 feature win in the past two years. Lake would be followed by #01x Randy Radabaugh, #98 Ricky Smith, #07 JC Witherspoon and #9s Marc Super.

#21 Steven Hilliker lost the point lead after not finishing last week’s Elgin Pro Stock feature event. However, he wasted no time closing the gap on current leader #m65 Rick Spencer, as Hilliker took the lead within the first four laps of the 20-lap feature. He easily cruised to victory over #93 John Robbins, Spencer, #21 Darren Mularz, and heat race winner #91 Gary Shank.

#20w AJ Ward and #7d Myron DeYoung came into Friday night’s action as co-points leaders in the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified division. All eyes were on those two drivers as they moved through the field from their row six starting positions. #42 Craig Vance had been leading before Ward would make the winning pass in turn four. DeYoung would make a bid for the lead after a late restart, but Ward was the first to the checkered flag for his third win of the season. DeYoung, #70 Heath Grizzle, Vance, and #4s Toby Steele finished within the top five. #5 Tanner Pray, Ward, and Steele captured heat gold.

The Hasting Racing Rings Late Model Division had rookie #41x Jesse Playter jump out to the early race lead in the 25 lap feature. However, #0p Kris Patterson Jr. would jump from his seventh place starting position to take the lead by lap five. He would overwhelm the field by finishing a half-lap ahead of second place Playter. Point leader #21 David Hilliker, #24 Alex Hupert, and #4 Chad Anklam captured the remaining spots in the top five. Patterson and Hupert would win heat races.

#3c Mitch Clements had a strong start of the 20-lap Auburn Hotel Bar and Grill feature event. He would eventually concede that position to #57 TJ Gilbert. Gilbert was looking like the man to beat. But Jared Rizer, working the bottom lane, was able to overtake Gilbert on the final lap to steal the win. Behind Rizer were Gilbert, #7r Dave Newcomb, #75s Kevin Strong, and Clements. Strong had to win the B-Main to make it into the feature. Qualifying heats were won by Clements, Rizer and #71 Anthony Jurek.

Join us as we enjoy a Blast From the Past as we celebrate the memories of former fans and drivers. Australian pursuits will take the place of the heat races (with the exception of the IMCA Modifieds). The night will also include Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pro Stocks and V6 Bombers.
