Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 7, 2019) – Roger Crockett finished on the podium during his first full season of running the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule for points.
Crockett captured his 21st top 10 of the season with the series last Friday during the season finale to wrap up a third-place finish in the championship standings.
“Once we locked into the main event Friday we knew we were guaranteed third in points,” he said. “That was the primary goal last week, making sure we maintained that position. Next was to focus on running well. We moved forward in our heats and qualifiers and didn’t have to run a B Main. We were able to lock the car into the show each night somewhat at ease.”
Crockett kicked off the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals hosted by the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race last Thursday. He then placed fourth in a qualifier to rank 13th in points, garnering the 13th starting position for the A Main.
“I made a mistake in the qualifier and let one car by,” he said. “If that didn’t happen I started in row two of the feature. My car wasn’t free enough in the feature and we survived. (Matt) Covington got around me and I stayed near him because I knew that it was about survival. Our main focus was holding our spot in the points.”
Crockett improved his results on Friday, placing second in a heat race and third in a qualifier before gaining a position to finish seventh in the main event.
“I was battling for fifth when a car got sideways in front of us,” he said. “He did it a second time and I had to about park it. I lost a bunch of spots and a bunch of ground. We were back to 11th and were able to rally back to seventh. It was frustrating, but I knew our car was really fast. The track was a lot of fun and was very racy. We were able to battle with some good cars. I felt like we had a podium car.”
Crockett ended the season tied for the third-most top 10s and tied for the fifth-most top fives during ASCS National Tour competition. He also scored a pair of feature victories, his most in a single season since 2013 and his third straight year with at least one trip to Victory Lane during ASCS National Tour action.
