Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 10, 2018) – Brandon Hanks earned his first top-five finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com in a little more than two years last Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway.

Hanks netted a top 10 on Night 1 of the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals before he capped the event with a fifth-place finish – his first with the series since winning a race on March 25, 2016.

“It feels great to start the season with several strong runs,” he said. “We’ve put more of our focus on 410ci sprint car racing the last couple of years so it’s nice to see that success cross over into our 360 program.”

The event began on Friday when Hanks placed second in a heat race. That ranked 12th in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the A Main.

“We were too tight and fought it and fought it, but everyone else fought the same thing,” he said. “I guess we had the lesser of the evil because we still moved forward. The car didn’t want to turn at all. I think I would have been better off at the drag strip.”

Hanks gained a handful of positions during the 25-lap main event as he rallied to score an eighth-place finish.

“I was pretty happy with that,” he said. “It gave us more confidence going into Saturday’s show.”

The event concluded on Saturday with Hanks winning a heat race – his first with the ASCS National Tour since September 2016 – after starting on the pole. That gave him the sixth starting position for the 30-lap A Main.

“We got a little more aggressive with it and we managed to make a race car instead of a dump truck,” he said. “We weren’t in the same zip code as Sam Hafertepe Jr., Tony Stewart and those guys, but we were a top-five contender the whole race. We’re there and we’re lurking. We’ve got good speed. I’m excited to go to the next one.”

Hanks posted a fifth-place finish, which marked his second top five in the last three races.
