Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 10, 2018) – Brady Bacon made the most of his first opportunity driving the Sawblade.com backed Cooper Motorsports machine as he claimed a victory last Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway.

It wasn’t easy for Bacon as steering issues had the Cooper team thrashing on Saturday. Nevertheless, Bacon drove from his seventh starting position to the lead on Lap 13 and pulled away for his 14th career win with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by Sawblade.com at the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals.

“When I drove for the Dooling Hayward team they were good friends with the Coopers and we talked about this opportunity,” Bacon said. “It just worked out with my schedule. I’m from Oklahoma originally and I don’t get many opportunities to race close to home so this was special. I had a lot of family and friends there.”

The weekend started slowly for Bacon and the Sawblade.com backed team. Bacon placed fourth in a heat race and second in a B Main on Friday to earn a spot toward the rear of the field in the A Main.

“It took a little getting the car comfortable for me,” he said. “We made some changes toward my preferences. For the heat race the track was greasy and the leader didn’t get a good start and we had to settle for fourth, which put us in the B Main. We got second in the B Main, which meant starting at the rear of the A and the track was heavy and a little rough, pretty much one lane and hard to pass.”

Bacon maneuvered from 19th to a 12th-place result.

Saturday started better with a heat race win. However, Bacon said the car “didn’t feel right.”

“We had a hole in the right rear and I thought that was causing the problems, but I ran that heat without any power steering,” he said. “I have to give James Cooper and all the crew, including some of my friends from back home, a lot of credit. They replaced everything in the steering from the box to the pump. That didn’t give us a lot of time to work on the setup, but the car was good.”

Bacon started seventh in the 30-lap A Main and he used a lower lane to his advantage as he powered into the lead on Lap 13.

“Everyone was running the top of turns three and four and I could run the middle and slide up in front down the frontstretch,” he said. “I found a line no one else was using. It’s great to get a win this early and with a new team like this. I have a pretty cool trophy for my shop now.”

Bacon will return to USAC midget events this weekend at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind. However, because of the success he experienced with the Sawblade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team, more races may be in the future.

“We really hadn’t thought about it, but after that much success we discussed the possibility of other races if they fit in my schedule,” Bacon said.
