Andrew Hogue Claims Extreme Stock 50; Sam Rial Takes Street Stock 50

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Andrew Hogue is still a newcomer learning the ropes when it comes to racing on dirt.

Before the 2019 season, Hogue never drove a racecar of any type. Now, he is the winner of the biggest Extreme Stock race held at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Not only did Hogue shock the field, he shocked himself, outrunning the division’s best to capture the Superior Homes Extreme Stock 50 Saturday night. It was his first career win in the division.

“We finally made it,” a stunned Hogue said after the victory. “I don’t even know what to say. I’m glad it’s finished ... it wasn’t easy.”

Hogue had to work for this one. He started sixth on the grid and methodically made his way to the front through the early stages of the event.

Meanwhile, Extreme Stock heavy hitter Patrick McClane, who set quick time and started on the pole, paced the field. He led the first six circuits before Hogue took over and led through Lap 18.

McClane didn’t go away. He stayed close and challenged on the inside in the corners. He retook the lead on Lap 19, with Hogue ripping it back one lap later and leading through the 25th circuit.

“He drove me very clean and respectful,” Hogue said of McClane. “I didn’t want to rough anybody up, but I felt like we had a good car.

“I could get around one and two on the top, and I knew if I didn’t let him get in front of me, I could hold on. The car was much better than I expected it to be tonight.”

McClane nosed out front on Lap 26, but Hogue was up to task. The newcomer squeezed between the outside wall in Turn 2, and Hogue was back out front.

That was the last time Hogue gave up the lead. He led laps 27 through 50 and earned his first win of the season.

“It felt amazing,” Hogue said. “It almost brought tears to my eyes. I don’t know ... I never expected it tonight. I just thought I would give it my best run and whatever happened, happened. I’m just glad to be up here.”

McClane later spun and had to tag the rear. He came back to 11th. Austin Hogue, Sam Rial, Tim Berkheimer, and Donnie Broderick completed the top five.

Chase Billet didn’t cross the line first, but he was declared the winner of the 25-lap Creekside Auto Sales Limited Late Model feature.

Chad Myers started on the pole and led the entire race distance. In post-race tech, it was discovered that he had an illegal head. Billet, who started eighth, finished second and was awarded the top spot.

Ben Whitaker, D.J. Mease, Alan Sagi, and Devin Hart followed Billet to the stripe and completed the top five.

In Frankie’s Used Auto Parts/Mike’s Towing Street Stock action, Sam Rial took advantage of Brian Walls’ misfortune and captured the 50-lap affair.

Walls started second on the grid and led the first 34 circuits before stopping on Lap 35. Rial, who started third, took over and led the rest of the way for the win.

Kory Sites, Bud Witmer, Jim Palm, and Stan Wanner completed the top five. Walls finished 10th in the final rundown.

Jeremy Ott finished off a sweep of the weekend, besting the field in the Gene Latta Ford Central Pa. Legends main event.

On Friday, Ott passed Scott Houdeshell for the victory. He did it again Saturday, beating Houdeshell to the line in the 20-lap event.

Houdeshell led the first 11 circuits before Travis Perry made a pass and led through Lap 19. Ott made it exciting, passing both drivers to take the last-lap win.

Jorjie Sweger followed Ott and Houdeshell to the line. Aaron Updegraff and Perry completed the top five.

Jack Butler won a tight battle with Brandon Edgar to take the win in the Sportsman Modifield main event.

Butler led the first nine circuits. Edgar wrestled the top spot away on Lap 10, but Butler returned the favor on Lap 11 and never gave it up.

In Mid-Atlantic Modified competition, Ray Kable wired the field to take the victory in the 20-lap feature. Brad Kline and Justin Cullum completed the podium.

The Limited Stocks and Classic Cars completed the program. Adam Campbell won an entertaining 20-lap affair that saw seven different leaders and six lead changes.

Campbell took the lead for the first time on Lap 12 from Tim Raup. He lost it to Travis Brown on Lap 17 but took it back on Lap 19 from AJ Hoffner, who finished second.

Jim Rost Sr. started fourth and led twice, the most important coming from Lap 12 through Lap 15 to take the win. Ron Grove and Steve Clemo rounded out the podium.
