Doug Dodson Goes 2-For-2 in PA Sprint Series Finale at BAPS

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: It looked like it could be a short night for Doug Dodson in 305 Sprint Car action at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Dodson suffered motor trouble before he could hot lap and headed back to the pit area. Luckily for Dodson, he received help from fellow competitor Devin Adams, and repairs were made, and he was able to compete.

But the Middletown, Pa., ace didn’t just turn laps and dice back-and-forth with his 305 Sprint Car brethren, he won ... big.

Dodson kicked off the night with a victory in the PA Sprint Car Series main from Aug. 1. He came back later in the night and made it a clean sweep, passing Adams, ironically, for a second 20-lap victory.

“It was really fun,” Dodson said in Victory Lane. “Part of me feels a little bad stealing the win from Devin because if it wasn’t for them, his crew and his dad, we wouldn’t even be racing.

“In warm-ups, we had an engine issue and thought it would end our night. They jumped right in to help us out, and I really owe a lot to them for getting us back on the track and getting these two wins.”

Dave Grube started on the pole of the make-up feature and led the first 11 circuits. Dodson, who started second, stalked the leader and took advantage of a lapped car to take over the top spot.

“That was one of those instances when luck went my way,” said Dodson, who now has four career PASS wins. “I saw Dave go in, and I thought he made the right move, but the lapped car got in front of him. I had the clear line.

“Right after I got the lead, the caution came out and gave me a clear track. It couldn’t have gone any better for me. I’ve had enough bad luck that it was nice something went our way, and we could capitalize on it.”

Dodson led the rest of the race distance, with Grube settling for second. Devin Adams, Ian Detweiler, and Jaremi Hanson completed the top five.

In the nightcap, Dodson lined up eighth on the grid. He got into second and followed Adams on the 18th circuit.

The two-lap sign came out, and Dodson made his move. He got around Adams and led the final two laps to complete the sweep.

“Lining up eighth, I wasn’t sure,” Dodson said. “But man, when we dropped the green, I knew my car was really good. We didn’t change a thing all night. This car was operating, and yeah, it was a lot of fun.”

Adams, Dave Brown, Derek Hauck, and Landon Price completed the top five in a main event that featured only two cautions.

Jeremy Ott took the lead on Lap 2 and cruised to victory in the Gene Latta Ford Central Pa. Legends main event.

Scott Houdeshell got the jump on Ott at the initial start and led the first circuit of the 20-lap affair. Ott didn’t go away and surged out front by the time the field hit the flagstand to complete Lap 2.

Ott paced the field the rest of the way and took the win over Houdeshell, Stephen Wurtzer, Travis McClelland, and Aaron Updegraff.

In Limited Stock action, Robbie Carroll bested the field in the 20-lap main event. He took the lead on Lap 5 and led the rest of the way.
