This weekend at Sunset Speedway was a “HOT” one for sure. Featuring the “Bud Light Iron Man 100” $300 to win for the Pure Stocks. We also had the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods and Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks.

Fast Qualifiers in all classes were; Bridgeport Logistics Street stock-#5 of Mark Farrar 16.640, Budweiser IMCA Modifieds “hot laps” #25 Craig Cassell, IMCA Sport Mods #68 John Henry, Pure Stock #7 Trevor LaBarge.

IMCA Sport Mods: Heat race would start out the night running first. John Henry and Michael Melton would be on the front row, but Henry would get a great jump and pull out to a 3 car lead by the time they rolled in to turn #3. Chris Frisbie would come up to challenge but Henry would have the fastest car.

Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks: Heat race #1 would see some great side by side action with 4 laps to go between Brian Roden and Mark Farrar. Roden would hold off Farrar for the win.

Heat race #2. Would be all Arnie Case. Case had by far the strongest car, would take the lead over James Baker by 3.553.

Budweiser IMCA Modifieds: Heat race #1 winner would be the #8 of Rob Ireland who would go right to the top of the track and not look back.

Heat race #2 : Would see a great battle between Kenny Miller and Doug Lockwood side by side for the first 5 laps, Miller would pull away from Lockwood with 3 laps to go and take his first heat race victory in his new 2016 TRE.

Pure Stocks: Heat race #1 the victory would go to Trevor LaBarge. Heat race #2 would see a bold move from Joey Tardio from the second row, on the start he dove to the bottom of turn #4 under Travis Pitch to take the lead and off to victory lane.

IMCA Sport Mods “A” Main was definitely a nail biter for the front two drivers. # 17 Chris Frisbie and #68 of John Henry. Frisbie would take the lead on lap 2 with Henry right behind him. On lap #7 Frisbie would spin in turn #4 giving the lead back to Henry. Henry by far had the car to beat for the 30 lap main event and would take his first A main event win in 2016.

Finishing order: 1st- John Henry 2nd - Archie Somers 3rd- Ken Frisbie 4th -Chris Frisbie 5th -Michael Melton

Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks “A” Main Last time the Street Stocks were at Sunset a story developed with the front two leaders spinning with 3 laps to go giving the win after a green –white- checkered finish to Benny Sauter. But tonight would be a different story. The #33 of Arnie Case started 6th, for the 30 lap main and on lap #5 he would catch the leader of Doug Pitch. Case would work on Pitch for 2 laps and on lap #7 pass for the lead. Case could put his car anywhere on the track and still pull away from the rest of the pack. At one point case would have a half track lead. Late caution would bunch up the field but Case still had the car to beat taking home the trophy and money by almost 2 seconds.

Finishing order: 1st- Arnie Case 2nd – Mark Farrar 3rd-Doug Pitch 4th- Brian Roden 5th- Robert Summerhaulder 6th-Corey West 7th- Justen Case 8th- JC Miller 9th- Benny Sauter.

Budweiser IMCA Modifieds “A” Main: The early leader would be the pole setter of Rob Ireland going right back to the top groove where he left off in his heat race win. On lap 12 Don Schott would pass Ireland for the lead and hold it for 26 of the 40 laps main. Working his way up from the 8th spot would be fast time in hot laps once again Craig Cassell passing Schott on the bottom with 2 laps to go to take the lead and $650 in his wallet.

Finishing order: 1st- Craig Cassell 2nd- Don Schott 3rd- Rob Ireland 4th- Doug Lockwood 5th- Bubba Foster 6th-Kenny Miller 7th- Brad Martin 8th- Jeremy Martin 9h- Kristi Somers 10th-Bill Rowe.

Pure Stock “Bud Light Iron-man 100” “A” main: This race would see a great battle between two very fast cars of Joey Tardio and Trevor LaBarge. The first 51 lap before the half way fuel stop would see 7 lead changes between Tardio and LaBarge. If these two were not swapping the lead they were running side by side. Half way came out the drivers got a chance to cool themselves and their cars down, get a drink of water and see what they had for the next 50 laps. At the restart both Tardio and LaBarge would again pull away from the field and run side by side, LaBarge would try to make his move a couple laps to go for the lead, but just didn’t have enough tire at the end, Tardio would hold him off to take $300 and the win!!

Finishing order: 1st- Joey Tardio 2nd- Trevor LaBarge 3rd- John Henry 4th- Rick Burden 5th- Kendall Lee 6th- Travis Pitch 7th- Lonnie Jackson 8th-Corey LoCicero.
