Fans of Sunset Speedway Park were treated to some great racing for Les Schwab Tires Night on Saturday July 27th. Classes that were on hand included the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series, Midgets, and Womens.
In the Northwest Extreme Late Model feature Bob Trout from Banks would lead the early goings in his Mechanical Systems Inc./Greenway Construction #28 Victory Circle. Trout would blaze the trail until being overtaken by two-time series champion Greg Walters, also from Banks, on lap sixteen. Walters would lead the rest of the distance to put his T&G Trucking/American Landscaping #97 Victory Circle back in victory lane for the fourth time in 2013 with the series.
Collen Winebarger from Corbett would finish a respectable second place in his Discount Race Car Parts/All-In Property Investments/Hillsboro Vac & Sew #1 MasterSbilt followed by Bob Trout in third. The balance of the top five would consist of the Reser’s Fine Foods/Wayne Martin Floor Covering #99 MasterSbilt of Brad Martin from Warren in fourth and Jacob Myers of Salem crossing the line in fifth in his Myers Racing/Baxter’s Auto Parts/Powell Motors #9 Rayburn. Brad Martin and Collen Winebarger would be the two heat race winners while the Jackhammer Trucking/T&G Trucking #76 Rayburn of Jason Johnson from Gresham would win the evening’s trophy dash.
Beaverton’s Mitch Hoffses would make it two wins in a row in the Midgets division in his eBay Motors/Hoosier Tire Midwest/Ridgecrest Homes #5H Hawk. The 2012 Northwest Extreme Sprint champion Ariel Biggs, from Ocasta, Washington, would lead the majority of the feature in the Don Emory owned #11E mount. Biggs would lead all but the final two laps when Hoffses would make the move and pass for the lead on lap twenty-eight. It would mark the sixth overall win at SSP among three divisions for Hoffses this season.
Ariel Biggs would end her night in second place followed by the Ridgecrest Homes/Pro-Fab Custom Cars & Engines/Herz Precision Parts #5B Hawk of Pat Bliss from Milwaukie in third. Finishing the night in fourth was Glenn Bittrolf of Springfield in the #15 mount and the Analog Café/DRD Records/Foster Fab/G.W. Machine #8 Spike of Lance Hallmark from McMinnville finishing in fifth. Earning heat race wins earlier in the night were Hallmark and Bliss while Mitch Hoffses was the trophy dash winner.
Gabrielle Hollinger of Timber was the big winner in the Womens division. With the win she would become only the second driver to win the class in 2013. Hollinger would lead the entire distance in her All In Property Investments/Duncan Automotive/Avenue Settlement Corporation #60 Camaro to earn the first career feature victory in her career.
Freya Smith of McMinnville would earn second in the Sweere’s Auto Body/Sweere's Trucking/Tire Factory of McMinnville #37 Camaro followed by the #23 Camaro of Cori Vandercoevering from Banks in third. Cornelius’ Marcie Treat would complete the finishing order in fourth in the #02 Camaro. Smith and Vandercoevering would pick up the wins in the heat races and Vandercoevering would take home the triumph in the trophy dash.
