Northwest Extreme Late Model Series On Hand For Rose Festival Dirt Cup At SSP

Banks, Oregon- It’s early June at the Sunset Speedway Park that must mean it’s time for the annual Rose Festival Dirt Cup. This race goes back to 2004 when it was first ran and has had Late Models apart of the program every year except last year. The race on Saturday June 1st will mark the fourth of the season for the Northwest Extreme Model Series and the third visit to SSP.
There has been eight Rose Festival Dirt Cups to feature the Late Models in action. In those eight races there have been four different winners. Greg Walters has a total of five triumphs which is by far the most wins. Russ Sell, Eric Sayre, and Scott Puncochar have earned one victory each.
After weather spoiled the action for the series at Lebanon’s Willamette Speedway last weekend the teams are anxious to get back to racing. Greg Walters leads the tour in most victories this year, with two, while Collen Winebarger has won once. In addition to Winebarger’s single victory he has a single point lead over Jerry Schram after three races.
"We are hoping for another good run,” commented the point leader Winebarger, “we had a blast down at Willamette while it lasted last week but are excited to get back into crate series action at Banks."
When the series has visited the Sunset Speedway Park twice this year Greg Walters has won both main events. Walters has a total of eight series victories and is the only driver to win more than once at the Banks bullring. Jerry Schram, Russ Sell, Terry Ferrando, and Billy Workman Jr. each have won once.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
