Northwest Extreme Late Models Back At Banks

Banks, Oregon- This Saturday May 4th the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will return to Sunset Speedway Park in Banks. After an exciting first race of the season fans can’t wait for the return of the Northwest’s only touring dirt Late Model series.
Greg Walters was one of the last cars to show up in the pit area on April 27th but was the first to cross the line come feature time. Walters would win not just the main event but also the heat race and trophy dash to perform a clean sweep of the night. Walters is expected to make it out this Saturday for round two.
“This year I’m running a limited schedule,” commented Walters, the two-time series champion and winner of four track championships at Sunset, “but I plan to make all the Banks races because it’s literally in my backyard.”
Walters leads the series in victories when it has paid visits to SSP. He has a total of seven feature wins at Banks including the last two times the organization has been in town. No other driver has won more than once with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series since the group’s inception in 2010. However four drivers have earned a single win. Those drivers include Russ Sell, Billy Workman Jr., Terry Ferrando, and Jerry Schram.
The following week the series will make a visit to the Cottage Grove Speedway on May 11th for their Fan Appreciation Night presented by Knecht’s Auto Parts. Then after a little time off they will be on hand for two nights of racing at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon for the annual Clair Cup.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
