by John Lemon, OCRS PRTulsa Okla. (July 17, 2018) - This Saturday night the open wheel daredevils of the AMERI-FLEX / OCRS sprint car series will embark on the steep banking of the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina Oklahoma for "Truck Lungs Night". The event will be the first of two stops at the Highbanks in 2018 for the open wheel racers as the $24,000 Ameri-Flex Challenge III will take place in September. For the racetrack, Saturday will be the second sprint car event this season having hosted the World of Outlaws in early May.
Broken Arrow Oklahoma's Alex Sewell is looking to score his second main event in a row having cracked the winners circle at the Caney Valley Speedway on June 30th. Sewell comes into the event with the points lead in the chase for the championship hunt with defending series champion Zach Chappell just 68 points behind. Sewell is on quite a run as he currently leads the ASCS Red River Region standings as well. Mickey Walker is stalking the top two drivers as he sits just 15 markers behind Chappell.
The last time the AMERI-FLEX / OCRS sprint cars took to the 3/8-mile with 27 degree banking was August of last year in the Ameri-Flex Challenge II presented by Grand National Trailer event. Walker scored the highly popular victory and the $3,000 that accompanied such laurels. Chappell took the other win in 2017 that was contested on the Highbanks in June.
In addition to Sewell, other 2018 winners expected to compete this weekend at Salina include: Chappell (81 Speedway), Shane Sellers (Oklahoma Sports Park), Whit Gastineau (Caney Valley) and Sheldon Barksdale (Thunderbird Speedway). Add the slew of challengers to take on these drivers and the action that will be on display will be exciting, thrilling and leave you wanting to see more at it's conclusion.
The Salina Highbanks facility is like no other in the area. Highlighting the amenities is the VIP area of the Finishline Restaurant that sits on the second story. There you can order anything from Ribeye steaks, pasta dinners, fish dinners, salads and burgers or sandwiches. All while you sit in an air conditioned venue while enjoying the show. VIP tickets are $25 per person with the meals additional. Contact the speedway for additional information.
Saturday nights racing action will also see A-Mods, Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories B-Mods and S&J Plumbing Pure Stocks. These classed will be presented by Joe's Hand Cleaner for this event.
NUTZ n' BOLTZ
Switcharoo Part Deux:
Car owner Larry Collins is making another driver change in the B&L Collins Trucking #22x sprinter. Tuttle Oklahoma's Shane Sellers will be in the mount for Salina and possibly the rest of the season. The motor in the Maxim chassis is familiar to Sellers as he sold it to Collins after winning the Harold Leep Jr. Memorial at Oklahoma Sports Park in May. Collins started the season with Matt Cash at the wheel and had Matt Sherrell in the seat the past few weeks.
Back In The Batters Box:
Michael Bookout, who now resides in Enid OK, will make another attempt to race this weekend. "Bigfoot" had an oil pump fail him at the last event at Caney Valley and never got a lap in other than hot laps. A new pump is now in place and the driver of the 007 car will take another swing at it. If you haven't seen Bookout's new wrap on his car, take a good look as it's a beauty.
New Decals For Placement:
Sponsor decals are an important factor for the teams of the series to display. During the last couple of off weeks, some of the series regulars have been pointing skyward with the wrong portion of their cars at venues they have attended. This week seems to be an opportune time to pass out some "This Side Up" decals at this weeks drivers meeting.
Intermission Show & Tell:
The sprint car portion of this weeks program will be presented by Truck Lungs. Based in Muskogee Oklahoma, Trucks Lungs is an onboard air system installed on trucks and SUV's. Whenever air is needed, the Truck Lungs system will provide air for several situations. The company will present their product and provide a demonstration of its usage during intermission.
