Inside Line Promotions – BUSTI, N.Y. (June 28, 2016) – Joe Trenca scored his first podium finish of the season last Saturday at Stateline Speedway, where he led almost half of the Patriot Sprint Tour feature before being passed in traffic.

“To lead that many laps and not win the race is frustrating,” he said. “A podium is great, but we’re there to win. We’re definitely getting closer to winning.”

Trenca kicked off the night by charging from sixth to third place in a heat race. That advanced the Mucci Motorsports driver into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 to start the 25-lap main event on the outside of the second row.

“We were in second on the first lap coming out of turn two,” he said. “Around Lap 6 we took the lead around the top. I stuck to my guns and told myself not to leave the top. The race went green to checkered so we were in heavy lapped traffic. Going back I don’t know what I should have done differently.”

Trenca led approximately 10 laps before he was passed in traffic. Five laps later he made a bid to reclaim the lead.

“I tried to go back around the top of the leader and a lapped car slid up in front of me and I had to get out of the gas and that allowed third place to go by me,” he said after ending third. “That was a hard pill to swallow.”

The weekend began on Friday at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio, with the Patriot Sprint Tour. Trenca powered from eighth to fifth place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“It was a pretty slow paced race,” he said. “It was one lane around the bottom with little to no passing. You just tried to keep your position and not mess up. On a restart I gained one position and then another time a guy slipped up a little bit. It was really hard to pass. Fortunately we moved up.”

Trenca recorded a sixth-place result.

He is slated to return to action this weekend with five races on tap. Trenca will compete on Wednesday at Brewerton Speedway in Brewerton, N.Y., and Thursday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, N.Y., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints; and on Friday at Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, N.Y.; Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa.; and Sunday at Eriez Speedway in Erie, Pa., with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
