Race night drama at Park Jefferson for Fast Shafts All Star Qualifier

A race night filled with drama and controversy came to Park Jefferson on Monday as the Park Jefferson Speedway hosted a $1,000 to win IMCA Modified Special. Drivers from around the area came but it was 2 Sioux City cars which had everyone talking as Cody Thompson and Chris Abelson put on a show for the fans, but ultimately both were flagged for driving altercations while Chris Mills picked up the win.

The front row of Sean Barragan and Racer Ricky Stephan brought the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature to the green. A torrid battle continued as Chris Abelson worked from row 3 along with Thompson. Abelson roared around the top side of the Union County oval as he tracked down the leaders and eventually assumed the lead. In the closing laps, it was IMCA Rookie of the Year contender Cody Thompson who tracked down Abelson. Contact on the white flag lap saw the fans leap to their feet as the fearsome battle raged around turns 1-2. What happened next was matter of opinion as the 1x of Abelson went down to protect the bottom but Thompson was determined to put the 25 in the top spot. As the drivers came thru the turn, a dramatic line change saw Abelson push up and over the banking after contact on the bottom. Thompson roared to victory. However upon review, officials determine that Thompson cost Abelson the win and as a result received a black flag for rough driving. After the checkers, the 1X made serious contact with the white 25 and resulted in his own black flag. Track officials are in the process of levying penalties against both parties. It was Chris Mills who was the recipient of the drama while the podium finished with Ricky Stephan and Shane Demey.
The J&J Fitting Stock Cars had drama of their own as track champions Travis Barker and Ryan Harris also had a night of contact. A black flag resulted in Barker being placed in the back, but the recipient of the rough racing was Mike Albertsen who picked up his first win at the speedway. Harris and Keegan Nordquist rounded out the podium.
The Z98 IMCA Sport Modifieds once again had a good night of racing with I 29 neighbor Keegan Nordquist wheeling his beautiful 10 machine to first place in the Sport Mods. Nordquist came from. row 3 to take the win over hard charging Jake Sachau and a strong run from Josh Blom finished the podium.
The Q & Feather Again Hobby Stocks saw a first time runner in Tyler Smith take a fan favorite win. Smith was able to utilize his front row starting spot to get the jump on the field and not look back. Jeremy Ertman has a strong 2nd place finish and Kelvin Lansink rounded out the top 3.
This Saturday sees the first ever Sioux City 300 Enduro race featuring cars from all types racing 300 laps around Park Jefferson Speedway.
