Dirt Knight Hunter Marriot pillages the loot at Park Jefferson Speedway
It was a Dirt Knights invasion at Park Jefferson Speedway which pillaged the top prize on Monday nights first ever Dirt Knights Tour featuring the Artworks Graphics IMCA Modifieds. Dirt Knight Hunter Marriot rode north from his Brookfield, Missouri home and conquered the Siouxland's best as he took his Rage chassis number 62 to victory lane. At the start, it was Grundy Center, Iowa’s Joel Rust who got the jump on Sioux Cities Chris Abelson. Abelson made quick work of Rust after the opening quarter and dominated the middle section of the race. A mid race caution which caught up North Dakota’s Jason Wolla and top modified win leader Jay Noteboom put Hunter Marriot on the back bumper of Abelson. Marriot took his Rage chassis to the lead working the low side while Abelson continued to try and power past on the top side. Abelson hung strong for second until the waning laps where Arizona’s Ricky Thornton, North Carolina’s Kyle Strickler and Rust slid past. Strong showings by Siouxland’s posse saw Chris Abelson in fifth, Bob Moore in sixth, Ricky Stephan eleventh, Jim Thies fourteenth, RJ Merchant seventeenth and Jay Noteboom in twenty first. While the Dirt Knights took the podium, the Sioux City posse showed well against the top drivers of IMCA and with plans under way for a future appearance there is little doubt Sioux Cities best will build toward next years duel.
The consi-features were worth the price of admission as Jesse Sobbing came from fourth and Jay Noteboom from the fifteenth to get through consolation number one, and Josh Most from eleventh to win consolation two. Heat race winners for the five heats were Bob Moore, Joel Rust, Hunter Marriot, Corey Dripps and Abelson. A whopping total of forty three Artworks Graphics IMCA Modifieds took to Park Jefferson on Monday night with drivers from 11 different states represented.
With over 500 hundred victories, it was Harlan, Iowa’s Mike Nichols bringing his top running orange and blue 63 sponsored by SSS Roofing to Park Jefferson’s oval for the first time in 10 years and sweeping away with the checkers. Nichols, who has been a top shoe for over 20 years in IMCA Stock Cars, took advantage of his third row starting spot and worked the top third of the race track to work past the first two rows to victory. Elijah Zevenbergen had a daring run on the top getting to second, falling back, then roaring back to second to finish runner up and Casey Jones continues his ascension in the stock car ranks to finish a strong third after coming from row five just one week after his first Park Jeff victory. Zevengergen and Nichols won the heats.
Cody Thompson, Karl Brewer and Rusty Montagne decided that three wide was the way to work around the track for a majority of the IMCA Sport Modified feature. When it was done, Thompson was able to utilize the top shelf and gain a sixth victory of the season over Brewer, while late charge from Dudley Schroeder and John Foreman put them fourth and fifth over Montagne. Kole Nordquist and Thompson won the heats.
Andy Hoffman continues his strong season at The Park as he swept to another victory courtesy of the front row starting spot. After some five wide attempts to circle Park which resulted in bent up sheet metal, drivers settled down in the IMCA Hobby Stocks to see Hoffman win over a very strong running rookie Luke Jackson and the veteran Paul Menard. Craig Clift and Hoffman won the heats
Andy Harris and his beautiful number twenty two continue their strong runs at Park Jefferson as he bested Jared Gross and David Bates to take the Sport Compacts.
