Results from May 25th

Racing action returned to the Murray County Speedway this past Friday night. It looked like weather might play a factor early on in the day, but it passed and it ended up being a nice night for racing action. All of the usual classes were in attendance and eager to get the racing action underway.

S&S Electric MCRA Pickups
It didn’t take long for action to start in the pickup class. During the heat race, contact between Scott Stirn and TJ Gertsema resulted in Gertsema rolling his truck a few times. Thankfully, Gertsema walked away from the crash and was okay. Four trucks made the call for the 8 lap feature with Jim Gertsema and Matt Odom leading to the green. On the start, Odom took the race lead. Gertsema stayed close for a majority of the race and challenged for the lead. In the end, Odom was able to hold on to take the feature win just barely holding off Jim Gertsema who finished a close second. Dan Jensen finished third, and Cole Hoogland finished fourth.

Plaid Moose IMCA Sport Compact
Next to take the track were the Sport compacts. Six cars made the call for the 10 lap feature with Josh Stanley and Justin Van Dewalle led to the green. On the start, Stanley took the race lead. Dustin Virkus quickly made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. Virkus was able to get around Stanley for the race lead. Behind him, Josh Uhl took the second spot and looked to contest. However, Dustin Virkus went on to take the feature win. Josh Uhl finished second, Kent Miller finished third, and Brock Klaith finished fourth.

Wyffels Hybrids and Independent Ag IMCA Hobby Stocks
There was also action early on in the hobby stocks as well. In one of the heat races, Contact in turn 4 resulted in Jonathan Mitchell rolling his car once. Thankfully, he walked away from the wreck and was okay. Thirteen cars made the call for the 15 lap feature with Adam and Brad Snyder leading the field to the green. On the start, John Ross got a great start and took the race lead. Cory Probst quickly made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. Trevor Holm made his way to third and made it a 3 car battle for the lead. After a late caution, Probst took over the race lead. Holm followed him through and immediately battled for the lead. Ross stayed close and resumed the 3 car battle that was going on before the caution. In the end, Cory Probst held on to take the feature win. Trevor Holm finished second, John Ross finished third, and Adam Snyder finished fourth.

Cars Limited IMCA Sport Modified
Next up were the IMCA Sport modifieds. Twelve cars made the call for the 15 lap feature with Jim Horejsi and Tanner Gregoire leading to the green. On the start, Horejsi jumped out to the lead. Tony Rialson got to second and began to challenge. Behind them, Jeremy Van Ede made his way to third and looked to reel in the front 2 who had pulled away. However, problems for Rialson brought out the caution. On the restart, Van Ede got a great restart and made the pass for the race lead. Jeremy Van Ede quickly pulled away and made sure nobody would catch him as he went on to take the feature win. Jim Horejsi finished second, Dan Paplow finished third, and Danny Myrvold finished fourth.

Cartoyz IMCA Stock Cars
Next were the stock cars. Eleven cars made the call for the 18 lap feature. Billy Foesch and Mike Carlson led to the green. On the start, Carlson took the race lead. Kevin Debaere got to second and quickly began to challenge. Debaere made the pass and took over the race lead. Behind him, Dustin Larson had made his way to second and looked to catch Debaere. Larson caught Debaere and was able to make the pass for the race lead. Jake Bruns followed and looked to battle Larson. However, he ran out of time and Dustin Larson went on to take the feature win. Jake Bruns finished second, Jeff Larson finished third, and Kevin Debaere finished fourth.

O'Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Modified
Last up to take the track were the IMCA modifieds. Ten cars made the call for the 20 lap feature with Bruce Egeland and Jeremy Smith leading to the green. On the start, Egeland took the race lead. Smith quickly began to challenge. Dalton Magers made his way to third and looked to join the battle at the front. However, Don Geritsen Jr got around Magers for 3rd and began to catch the leaders. While this happened, Smith made the pass on Egeland for the race lead. Geritsen was able to follow him through and began to battle. The battle went right down to the wire. In the end, Don Geritsen Jr was able to make the last second pass in the final corner to take home the feature win. Jeremy Smith finished second, Dalton Magers finished third, and Bruce Egeland finished fourth.

Racing action will return next Friday night with all of the same classes mentioned above. The race sponsor for that night is Midwest Supply of Slayton.
