Racing Action for June 16th from the Murray County Speedway

Racing action returned on a cloudy Friday evening at the Murray County Speedway. With other tracks being rained out, more cars meant more action for race fans. The races were sponsored by Pizza Ranch of Slayton & Midwest Supply of Slayton.

S&S Electric MCRA Pickups
The MCRA Pickups started off the features. 7 trucks made the call for the 8 lap feature. Craig Gertsema led the field to the green flag. When the green flag dropped it was Matt Odom who jumped out to the race lead. Jordan Rolling made his way to second and quickly began to challenge for the lead. Rolling got around Odom for the race lead. Rolling went on to take home the feature win. Matt Odom finished second, Jon Joehnck finished third, and TJ Gertsema finished fourth.

Plaid Moose Café IMCA Sport Compact
Next to take the track were the sport compacts. 16 cars made the call for the 12 lap feature. Scott Espey led the field to the green flag. When the green flag dropped, Espey jumped out to the early lead. After an early caution, Espey kept the lead. Kent Miller got to second and began to challenge for the lead. After another caution, Espey again kept the lead. Behind him, Jon Schmidt, Jason Wynia, and Miller battled for second. Schmidt was able to secure second and began to challenge for the lead. Schmidt was able to get around Espey for the lead. However, problems for Schmidt caused him to drop back in the field. Wynia took advantage and took over the lead. Jason Wynia held on to take the feature win. Scott Espey finished second, Matt Smith finished third, and Tori Groebner finished fourth.

Legend Seeds Hobby Stocks
Next to hit the track were the hobby stocks. 16 cars made the call for the 15 lap feature. Jeremy Johnson led the field to the green. When the green flag dropped Trevor Holm got a great jump and went from sixth to the race lead. After an early caution, Holm kept the race lead. Eric Gillette made his way to second and looked to challenge. Justin Luinenberg caught Gillette and began to challenge for second. Luinenberg got around Gillette for second and looked to reel in Holm. He would run out of time and Trevor Holm went on to take the win. Justin Luinenberg finished second, Eric Gillette finished third, and Cory Probst finished fourth.

Sturdevant’s Auto Supply Sport Modifieds
Next to take the track were the sport modifieds. 12 cars made the call for the 15 lap feature. Alex Barnes led the field to the green. When the race began, Jim Horejsi jumped out to the early lead. Tony Rialson made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. After an early caution, Horejsi kept the lead. Danny Myrvold quickly began to challenge for the lead. After a series of cautions, Horejsi kept the race lead. Behind him, Cole Bents and Tony Rialson fought for second. Bents secured second and began to challenge for the lead. Contact between the leaders led the race to finish under caution with Jim Horejsi taking the feature win. Danny Myrvold finished second, Tony Rialson finished third, and Jeremy Van Ede finished fourth.

Car Toyz Stock Cars
The stock cars were next up to take the track. 8 cars made the call for the 18 lap feature. Dan Mackenthun led the field to the green. When the race began, Mackenthun jumped out to the lead. Behind him, Nick Johansen and Gary Mattison battled for second. As they fought for second, Mackenthun pulled away from the field. Dustin Larson joined in the battle for second. Johansen and Larson cleared Mattison and continued to battle for second. Larson was able to clear Johansen for second, but didn’t have the time to reel in the leader. Dan Mackenthun went on to take the win. Dustin Larson finished second, Nick Johansen finished third, and Gary Mattison finished fourth.

RH Sealcoating & Asphalt IMCA Modified
Last up, were the IMCA Modifieds. 19 cars made the call for the 20 lap feature. Tom Brown led the field to the green. On the start, Zach Van Voorst jumped out to the lead and quickly pulled away from the field. Behind him, Chris Palsrok and Don Geritsen fought for second. However, problems for Van Voorst brought out the caution. This put Chris Palsrok in the lead. On the restart, Geritsen took over the race lead. Tyler Limoges was right behind him and challenged for the lead. Limoges was able to get around Geritsen for the lead. Geritsen didn’t go away and challenged for the lead. Limoges held on to take the win. Don Geritsen finished second, Jesse Rogotzke finished third, and Jeff Larson finished fourth.

The races will return next Friday with all of the same classes being featured. The races will be sponsored by Avoca Spray & Rowdy's Repair of Slayton. Then the following Friday, June 30th, the Speedway will be holding their “Salute to Ag” night, with free admission into the grandstand.
