Racing Action from May 26th

After being rained out last week, mother nature finally cooperated and we were able to race this past Friday night. In addition to the regular classes, the late model street stocks were also making their first appearance on the year. With 83 cars checked in and nice calm night, each race was set to be full of action.

S&S Electric MCRA Pickups
First out on the track were the MCRA Pickups. 7 trucks made the call to the feature race with Matt Odom leading the field to take the green flag. When the green flag dropped, Odom took advantage of his good starting spot and jumped out to the race lead. Jordan Rolling was right behind him and quickly began to challenge for the lead. Rolling eventually got around Odom to take the race lead. Rolling was able to hold on and take home the feature win. Dan Jensen finished second, Jon Joehnck finished third, and Matt Odom finished fourth.

Plaid Moose Café IMCA Sport Compact
Next to take the track were the IMCA Sport Compacts. 16 cars made the call for the 12 lap feature with Josh Uhl leading the field to the green flag. When the race began, Uhl also took advantage of his good starting position and quickly grabbed the race lead. After an early caution, Uhl maintained the race lead and quickly began to pull away. Behind him, Matt Smith, Tori Groebner, and Jon Schmidt all battled for the second spot. Groebner was able to secure second and look to reel in Uhl. Although she was making up ground, Groebner ran out of time and Josh Uhl went on to take home the feature win. Tori Groebner finished second, Jon Schmidt finished third, and Dylan Schreier finished fourth.

Legend Seeds Hobby Stocks
Following the sport compacts where the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Thirteen cars made the call for the 15 lap feature with John Ross leading the field to the green. As the race began, Ross took advantage of his starting spot and jumped out to the early lead. However, contact in the middle of the pack resulted in Trevor Holm rolling his car and the red flag being displayed. Holm got out of his car and would be okay. On the restart, Ross maintained the race lead and quickly began to distance himself from the field. Behind him, Cory Probst made his way to second and looked to reel in Ross. Probst wouldn’t have enough time and John Ross would go on to take home the feature win. Cory Probst finished second, Dan Strandberg finished third, and Malik Sampson finished fourth.

Sturdevant’s Auto Supply Sport Modifieds
Next to take the track were the IMCA Sport Modifieds. 10 cars made the call for the 15 lap feature with Eric Bassett leading the field to the green. As the green flag dropped, Bassett jumped out to the early race lead. Jim Horejsi was right behind him and quickly challenged for the lead. Bassett and Horejsi went back and forth with neither driver being able to completely clear the other to secure the race lead. However, problems for Horejsi caused him to fall back a few spots and Bassett would end up the race leader. Bassett took advantage of this and began to distance himself from the field. Bassett was able to hold on and take home the feature win. Danny Myrvold finished second, Jeremy Van Ede finished third and Jim Gregoire finished fourth.

Car Toyz Stock Cars
Next up to take the track were the IMCA Stock cars. 8 cars made the call to the 18 lap feature with Gary Mattison leading the field to the green. As the green flag dropped, Nick Johansen got a good jump and took the early lead. Dustin Larson followed him through and quickly got around Johansen to take the race lead. Larson quickly began to pull away, but a late caution tightened things up. On the restart, Larson continued where he left off and maintained the lead. Larson held on to take home the feature win. Nick Johansen finished second, Jake Bruns finished third, and Kevin DeBaere finished fourth.

RH Sealcoating & Asphalt IMCA Modifieds
Next up were the IMCA Modifieds. 15 cars made the call for the 20 lap feature with Dalton Magers leading the field to the green flag. As the race began, Jesse Rogotzke jumped out to the early race lead. As Rogotzke began to distance himself from the field, Tyler Limoges made his way to second and looked to reel him in. Limoges was able to catch Rogotzke, but a late caution helped tighten things up and forced a green white checkered finish. On the restart, Limoges got a great jump and was able to get around Rogotzke for the race lead. Limoges went on to take home the feature win. Jesse Rogotzke finished second, Dalton Magers finished third, and Josh Bonnstetter finished fourth.

Tailgators Bar & Grill Late Model Street Stocks
The late model street stocks would finish out the night of racing. 15 cars made the call for the 20 lap feature with Jim Pruett leading the field to the green flag. As the race began, Pruett jumped out to the early race lead. After an early caution, Brylee Gough got a great jump and was able to take the race lead. Darrin Korthals had made his way from ninth to second and looked to reel in Gough. Korthals caught Gough and was able to take the race lead. As Korthals was pulling away, a late caution forced a green white checkered finish. On the restart, Korthals maintained the lead and would hold on to take home the feature win. Craig Hanisch finished second, Cory Yeigh finished third, and John Hoing finished fourth.

The races next week will feature all of the regular classes and are being sponsored by Marthaler Chevrolet, Ford & Dodge of Worthington.
