MOWA Doubleheader Includes Mary Lee Standridge Memorial and New Venue!
(Bill W) May 13, 2013 – The Midwest Open Wheel Association hits the Midwest for a pair of big shows this weekend! First up is the Mary Lee Standridge Memorial this Friday night at the Jacksonville Raceway in Jacksonville, Illinois. The stars of MOWA will bid for that prestigious win, and then head to a new venue. On Saturday, they hit the high banks of Montgomery Motorsports Park in New Florence, Missouri for the Spring Sprint Nationals.
Brian Brown won last year’s Mary Lee Standridge Memorial event. It’s anyone’s guess who will conquer the banked ¼-mile this time around. The series has seen seven different winners in eight trips to Jacksonville the past three years. Only Jimmy Hurley has been a repeat winner in Jacksonville. Joining Brown as other winners there are Terry McCarl, Jerrod Hull, Danny Smith, AJ Bruns and Joey Moughan.
In addition to FREE admission for kids under 12, there will be $500 in quarters up for grabs as part of the “Kid’s Dash for Cash” at Jacksonville!
Action should be awesome on the high-banked 3/8-mile oval in New Florence, Missouri on Saturday as well. An open wheel doubleheader also features All Star Midgets! MOWA will be visiting Montgomery Motorsports Park three times in 2013!
After two events, AJ Bruns leads the current MOWA point standings. Young Paul Nienhiser is second in points, Hurley and Hull are tied for third in points, and Ben Wagoner rounds out the top five. Ian Madsen and Jac Haudenschild have won features at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa and the Vermilion County Speedway in Danville, Illinois, respectively.
Pits open at 3 p.m. on Friday in Jacksonville with grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Racing is slated for 7 p.m. Admission is $20, with children 12 and under FREE! For more information, visit www.JacksonvilleSpeedway.com!
Gates open at 5 p.m. on Saturday in New Florence, with hot laps scheduled for 7 p.m. Adult admission is $20, with kids 8 and under FREE. For more information, visit www.montgomerymotorsportsparkmo.com/!
