Stroebel, Richardson Duel in Speed Tour Showdown
Meridian Speedway crowned a pair of division champions Saturday, September 17, as part of The Fence Store Night at the Races. The Speed Tour Modifieds powered by Pit Stop USA and Pepsi Sprintcars took their final checkered flags of the year, while the Bud Light NASCAR Modifieds, Touchdown Automotive Street Stocks, Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks, and Bandoleros raced wheel-to-wheel for the night’s Trammel Construction Feature Flags.
The Speed Tour Modifieds powered by Pit Stop USA took to the Concrete Jungle to cap their season with the Allen Stroebel Memorial 65. Allen’s son Shelby roared to the early lead but was soon joined up front by point leader Andrew Richardson. Richardson worked his Westside Machine, Gibson Performance Diesel modified hard in the outside lane, but Stroebel proved too strong down low, and the veteran campaigner parked his Renegade Race Fuel, Pit Stop USA racer in the Caleb’s Chop Shop Winner’s Circle.
“That show with Andy right there that was probably one of the hardest races I’ve raced in a long, long time,” Stroebel said.
With his second-place finish Richardson claimed the Speed Tour Modified championship, his first division title.
“My whole family makes this happen,” Richardson said.
A ten-pack of Pepsi Sprintcars rumbled to green for the last time in 2022. Points leader Kaleb Johnson wasted no time putting his YMC, Giesler Auto Repair sprinter up front and never looked back en route to his third victory.
Johnson also earned the Pepsi Sprintcar division championship, his first.
Bud Light NASCAR Modified point leader Neal Latham padded his point lead in both the Meridian Speedway and National NASCAR Division 1 standings with a win in Saturday night’s first feature. Rus Ward piloted his modified to the victory in the division’s second feature.
Young Dylan Wardle sliced his way to the front of a competitive Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stock field to claim his first division victory.
Troy Evans completed his climb to the top of the Touchdown Automotive Street Stock standings with his sixth-straight feature victory.
Alannah Trammel navigated her way through a rowdy pack of Bandoleros to take home the night’s Trammel Construction Feature Flag.
The largest gathering of Speed Tour Sprint Cars powered by Pit Stop USA ever assembled descends on Meridian Speedway this Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24, for the eighth running of the Pink Lady Classic. Joining in the open-wheel excitement are the Speed Tour Supermodifeds powered by Pit Stop USA, Salt Lake City Midgets, and the West Coast Vintage Sprintcars. Friday night features the All-Star Club Series’ championship race, while the Trammel Construction Stingers round out Saturday night’s action.
