Seavey flies POWRi checkers at Macon

By POWRi (Macon, IL) -- It seems that around every corner in 2019, Logan Seavey is somewhere making history. On Saturday night, that somewhere was Macon Speedway, as he became the second driver in POWRi’s 15-year existence to record a double-digit win campaign.

Marking his tenth win of a remarkable 2019 season, Seavey not sits only one win away from tying Christopher Bell’s record of 11 wins in 2014, which currently stands as the most POWRi National Midget victories in a single season. Saturday’s triumph, the third of Seavey’s career at Macon, also gave the Sutter, Calif. 22-year old his 18th-career victory, putting him in a tie with Tanner Thorson for the sixth-most wins in league history.

Winning it from sixth, Seavey would have to drive by a flock of worthy contenders in the early running to get to the point. Going top shelf from the drop of the green flag, Seavey maneuvered his Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, Mobil 1, Bullet/Toyota No. 67 into third behind Cannon McIntosh of Bixby, Okla. and his KKM teammate, Tanner Carrick.

Discovering the low line, Seavey dipped to the bottom of the 1/5th-mile and made quick work of Carrick before setting his sights on McIntosh. While Seavey snuck around the inside, McIntosh, the budding 16-year old pilot of the Dave Mac Motorsports, Drive WFX, Spike/Toyota No. 08, remained committed to the top.

Going side-by-side in an exciting affair, Seavey and McIntosh dueled for back-to-back laps, bringing fans to the edge of their seat as they nearly touched with lap traffic looming. Pulling ahead by a nose, Seavey stole the advantage and was credited the lead on lap nine just before McIntosh slipped to third behind a fast-approaching Jake Neuman.

Running the remainder of the 30-lapper without stoppage, the action was hot and heavy everywhere you looked, but particularly where Seavey was engulfed in lap traffic and where Neuman, Carrick and McIntosh supplied a thrilling battle for the runner-up bid.

Hampered by lappers, who were fighting for position in their own right, Seavey ran into a rolling roadblock in the final stages with nearly every available lane occupied. Holding his ground, Seavey kept the gap at just over a full straightaway as the trio behind him were immersed in their own actions.

Finding daylight as if the Red Sea had parted, Seavey snuck through the narrow confines of lap traffic with five to go and found breathing room in the waning laps. While the 2017 National Champion was on cruise control out front, McIntosh and Carrick continued clawing at each other for the final podium spot, a battle that came down to the checkered flag.

Out front, however, there was no stopping Logan Seavey on this night, let alone this season. He collected his third-career win at the “Mighty” Macon Speedway giving him ten wins on the year and 18 wins in his career. The Toyota Racing Development driver is now only one more win away from tying Christopher Bell’s mark of 11 wins as the winningest single season in POWRi National Midget history.

Following Seavey to the line on Saturday at Macon Speedway was Jake Neuman aboard the Team Ripper No. 21KS in second, Cannon McIntosh in third driving the Dave Mac Motorsports No. 08, Tanner Carrick with a fourth-place effort in his Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports No. 71K, and Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill. rounding out the top five aboard the No. 5D machine.

A pair of off-weekends await the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, allowing racers a break until Friday and Saturday, October 4-5 when the action resumes at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois.
