Taylor And Crawley Extend Point Leads After Busy Holiday Weekend
Six Division Show On Tap For Macon Speedway Saturday
Race fans in Central Illinois got to see a little bit of everything this past weekend at Macon IL Speedway. Not only did the track hold its Saturday show, a Monday special event was also on tap featuring seven divisions plus NASCAR's Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. All-in-all, those attending got to see some great racing in a vast array of classes. At the end of the weekend, two veteran drivers extended their point leads in Macon's premier classes.
#24 Matt Taylor
In the UMP Pro Late Model division, Springfield, IL driver Matt Taylor continued his fantastic season with a pair of runner-up finishes. Taylor finished second to his brother, Guy, on Saturday night, while Nick Bauman fended off his challenges on Monday. In six races this year, Taylor has two wins and four second place finishes, which now gives him a 28-point lead in the standings over Clinton, IL driver Roben Huffman. Jake Little, Guy Taylor, and Cody Maguire complete the top five in Macon Pro Late Model points.
#37 Dave Crawley, Jr.
Decatur, IL driver, Dave Crawley, Jr., continued his outstanding season in the Billingsley Towing UMP Modified division. Crawley took third on Saturday night before getting back into victory lane on Monday with his fourth win this season. Rodney Standerfer's win on Saturday night was the only blemish on Crawley's near perfect record. Curt Rhodes, Jeff Graham, Standerfer, and Zach Rhodes complete the top five in Modified standings at Macon.
In other divisions that will be competing this Saturday night, Mt. Olive, IL driver Tim Hancock, is a perfect 4-for-4 in the B-Mod class to give him a 24 point lead over Ryan Timmons in the standings. Nick Justice has an 18 point lead on Kyle Waters in the Street Stocks leading into the $500 to win Big Ten Street Stock race. In the Hornet class, Tony Reed holds a 12 point lead over Michael Gossett. Both drivers picked up feature victories this past weekend. Rounding out the classes this weekend will be the Beach House Micros, who are coming off their only non-POWRi sanctioned race of the season this past Monday.
The Saturday, June 4 show features six divisions of racing including the $500 to win Midwest Big Ten Street Stock feature event. The fields have been very strong in the Street Stock class this year with 38 different drivers on the Macon roster already this season. In Big Ten action, Decatur, IL driver, Dave Crawley, Jr., has won both races, claiming victories at Lincoln Speedway on April 22 and at Macon on May 14. This weekend's race will be the third of the ten scheduled events. Kyle Waters, Terry Reed, Brian Dasenbrock, and Jeremy Nichols are top five point competitors in the series.
Adding to Saturday's show will be the UMP Pro Late Models, Billingsley Towing UMP Modifieds, UMP B-Mods, UMP Hornets, and Beach House Micros. Congregations from area churches will be filling the stands as they watch their pastors compete in the BG Nevitt Memorial Faster Pastor race. It will also be "Three Dog Night", featuring $1 hot dogs in the concession stands and a hot dog eating competition at intermission.
Pit gates will open Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, competitor pill draw ends at 5:50, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and free for kids 11 and under.
