Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 22, 2017) – Trey Starks came out of a busy week in Central Pennsylvania with added confidence and comfort racing with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at two tough tracks.

“We didn’t get the results we wanted, but it was nice to feel we could race and be competitive and not just roll around,” he said.

Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports opened the week last Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., where Starks qualified eighth quickest in his group to start the Gettysburg Clash.

“We had a pretty good qualifying effort that put us in a spot to transfer through to the main,” he said. “We had some issues with the car in the heat race. The throttle was hanging halfway open and that made it pretty hard to drive. Then we were a little bit off in the Last Chance Showdown and ended up one spot out.”

Starks placed ninth in a heat race before closing the night fifth in the Last Chance Showdown.

The team ventured to Williams Grove Speedway on Friday for the first night of the Morgan Cup. Starks timed in seventh in his group during qualifying before finishing seventh in a heat race.

“We qualified pretty good again,” he said. “It was a pretty good heat race and we were just off with the car and I was off with my driving a bit. I couldn’t stick the bottom and let some cars get by me. We made some pretty big changes for the Last Chance Showdown and ended up winning by a good amount. Our best time in the LCS right after the dash was almost two tenths faster than the dash times. We weren’t quite as good in dirty air in the main event.”

Starks won the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the A Main. Unfortunately, a rear end failure ended the night early with a 20th-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway. Starks qualified 18th quickest before he used a last-lap pass to secure the fifth-and-final lock-in position into the main event.

“We started out similar to where we ended on Friday,” he said. “We went out early in qualifying and didn’t have the time we wanted. In the heat race, in the last corner on the last lap, I made an aggressive move and ended up getting a transfer spot by about half a car length.”

That started Starks on the inside of the 11th row for the main event.

“It’s tough to race there in the back with dirty air,” he said. “We were anywhere from 20th to 15th. We were swapping spots left and right. Restarts got pretty dicey at times. While we finished 19th, the main thing is that I was a lot more comfortable racing at Williams Grove. It’s a really unique track and it’s tough to race at. You have to be really keen on the air on your car. The result wasn’t what we wanted, but I was able to make some aggressive moves. It was definitely progress.”

Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports have a trio of events on tap for this weekend beginning on Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws before competing on Saturday and Sunday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the Weikert Memorial.
