Bill Balog
Two Season Openers, One Win!!!
Bristol, WI – April 23, 2015. Bill Balog and the B2 Motorsports Team embarked on a new challenge two weeks ago as they kicked off their 2015 season with the newly formed National Sprint League in which Bill and the B2 Motorsports team will compete for a championship title. They traveled to West Burlington, IA to the 34 Raceway for Round #1 of the championship season. Their last visit to the three-eighths mile oval was last June with the World of Outlaws where he charged late in the feature from 11th to finish in the 3rd position. This night started off with an early pill draw which ultimately was not good thing as the track would get faster as each qualifier went, timing Bill in 15th out of the forty cars in attendance. Lining up in the 3rd starting position for the heat race, Bill would lose a couple spots falling to 5th after three attempts to go green and finish there in the lightning fast heat race. After driver introductions on the front stretch, Bill would line the 17B sprinter up in the 14th starting position for the feature. He quickly made his way up to the 11th position before an early caution would fly. When the green came out again, Bill picked off several more cars before the car began to lose its handle and slip backwards. A late caution would come out bunching the field back up giving Bill another shot to move forward. When the green flew again, Bill once again made his way forward, but after a few laps lost the handle on the car and lost all the positions he gained finishing in the 11th position. After inspection by the team, they found that they had a bleeder issue had been the root of the problem to losing the handle of the car.
Last weekend was the season opener for the Interstate Racing Association at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. Bill was looking to keep his win streak alive as he has won the last three events at the LaSalle Speedway in IRA competition. Forty cars were in attendance for the second straight week. With the high winds and warm temperature, the track faded quickly which did not bode well for Bill’s late pill draw. After two laps of qualifying, Bill would lay down the 8th fastest lap setting him up with a 5th place starting position in the fourth heat race. Bill would fall into line running in the 5th position when racing got underway in the heat race, tip toeing his way around the tricky surface. Three laps in, two cars would tangle in front of Bill moving Bill into the 3rd position. Two laps in the next green flag run, Bill would move into 2nd place, but lost the position back as he drove under the checkered flag finishing in the 3rd position. With the quick timer drawing a “3” pill, Bill lined the 17B sprinter up on the pole of the feature. Once the green flag dropped, Bill would stay out front for the thirty laps driving flawlessly through lapped traffic and collect his first victory of 2015.
This weekend, Sunday April 26th, Bill will debut the Lein Acres #2 sprinter at the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA. Bill’s last visit to the third-mile facility was last June when the World of Outlaws were in town. After winning the Dash, Bill led a good portion of the feature before falling to finish in the 9th position. He also finished a respectable 4th and 3rd earlier in the year with the IRA.
