Trenca Ends 15th After Running Out of Fuel Late in Race at Weedsport

Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (Aug. 17, 2015) – Joe Trenca was on pace for a great night last Sunday before his Mucci Motorsports sprint car ran out of fuel in the closing laps.
“We were running seventh with three laps to go and we ran out of fuel,” he said. “I’m disappointed they didn’t do a fuel stop after they went over the window by a pretty big number. It was sputtering with about five to go and then it shut off with three to go.”
Trenca had kicked off the night at Weedsport Speedway by maneuvering from ninth to fifth place during his Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints heat race. That locked him in the dash, where he finished in the same spot he started – third – to line up on the inside of the eighth row for the 25-lap main event.
“The track was a lot different than when we were there with the World of Outlaws,” he said. “It was very narrow, rough and had a curb. It was tough to pass.”
Trenca stayed near the position he started for the first two thirds of the race before he began to advance in the final stage.
“We didn’t make any moves until about Lap 18,” he said. “We were still 14th or 15th. Once the fuel load burned off we got good at the top of the track and started picking them off one or two a lap. We were really, really good. We were getting ready to pass for sixth when we ran out of fuel. I’m bummed because I know we were a top-five car.”
He was credited with a 15th-place result.
Trenca, whose race last Friday at Brewerton Speedway in Brewerton, N.Y., was rained out, is slated to compete this Saturday at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., with the URC.
