Mt. Pleasant Speedway: With rain all around us in the area there was questions of getting the second show of the season The Robert Whitman Memorial in this week. With a lot of luck the rain stayed away and pits slowly filled up. With car counts similar to last week 17 UMP Late Models, 20 UMP Mods, 17 UMP Stock Cars, 5 Mod 4’s, and 14 Stock 4’s. There were two heat races for the premier class at Mt. Pleasant speedway the Wilson Steel and Fab/Burnrite Stoves Ump Late Models. Heat #1 would end up with the M14 of Brandon Thirlby taking the win with the #27 of Eric Spangler finishing a close 2nd. Heat #2 would be won by Rookie Late Model Driver #13 Andy Galgoci. In Just his second heat race ever at Mt. Pleasant speedway in the Late Model division 19 year old Galgoci would come away with the victory with last year’s track champion #85 Mark Anderson coming in second. In the first heat race for the headliner of the night Robert Whitman Memorial we had last year’s Rookie of the year #47 Collin Thirlby beating out 7 time track champion Mr. Xtreme Rich Robinson Jr. In the second heat there was a nice battle between #19 Cody Bauer and #75 Roy Harvey with Cody just edging Roy for the win, In the Brad Penn Performance oil UMP street stock class we had two great heats with #68 Ron Harper edging out the D1 of Ray Devericks and in heat 2 we had #77B of Rob Brillhart and the #68 Rick Beauchamp running 1 and 2 in Heat #2. In the shootout for Mod 4’s we had two of the best up front with the #68 of Trevor Fedewa and the 19W of Shaun Warner. In the Clare/ Mt. Pleasant Automotive stock 4’s heat #1 we had a rear wheeled #62 of Steve Keeler beating out the front wheeled drive D2 of Steve Workman. In heat #2 it was the #23 of Joe Allen beating out the #77 of John Williams. With the heats in the books it was time for the features and Rolling out on the pole for the UMP Late Models was none other than many time track Champion in the X1 Justin Robinson with the # 27 Eric Spangler to his outside. With the drop of the green flag most cars ran out to the High side making it a one lane track. Top five finishing with the X1 Justin Robinson found a Familiar place in the Mt. Pleasant Speedway winner circle with the #27 Eric Spangler finishing 2nd , #12 Dave Hartman 3rd , #M14 Brandon Thirlby 4th , and Rookie UMP late Model Driver #13 Andy Galgoci rounding out the top five. With the main event of the night taking to the track with the Robert Whitman Memorial it was a star field of Michigan’s top UMP Modified drivers. With the #15 of Rich Robinson Jr. taking the early lead and #87 David Mielke hot on his tail. Robinson and Mielke being the cars to beat the two ran nose to tail. Robinson was able to keep his #15 Xtreme Chassis out in front of Mielke’s Ruhlman Race Cars Modified for the entire race. Robinson finishing 1st , Mielke 2nd #47 Collin Thirlby 3rd , #19 Cody Bauer 4th , and finishing out the top five #21 Steve Hilliker. The UMP Stock Car race had last year’s track champion #77B Rob Brillhardt finishing 1st running out front with some very hard racing behind him. 2nd #68 Ron Harper, 3rd #11 Jeff Loomis, 4th #D1 Ray Devericks, and rounding out the top five after being sent to the back of the field 3 times #23 15 year old Chance Allen. Mod 4’s Had Trevor Fedewa in his #68 modified mod 4 finishing 1st. 2nd was #19w Shaun Warner, 3rd #91 Nathan Carlon, 4th #48 Chris Wiggins Jr. In stock 4’s Steve Workman was the driver to beat in his front wheel drive #2 taking home the victory. A very fast rear wheel drive #23 Joe Allen coming in 2nd, 3rd #64 Gary Wilson, 4th #77 John Williams, 5th #50 James Wright with a great run for the night. Next week May 11th full show highlighted with a Taco Boy stock 4 Special. Look forward to seeing everyone back at the track as the season points races really start to heat up. Gates open at 5pm hot laps at 6:45pm and racing starts at 7:45. Adults $11, seniors $8, Children 11 and under $5, Family price of $25 for 2 adults and 2 children. Don’t forget Mt.
