Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway had an ultra-full night of racing on Saturday, August 3rd. The historic 1/3-mile clay oval had lots of cars and several classes on the card. Divisions in action included the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, IMCA Sport Mods, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
Justin Duty finally returned to victory lane after a bit of a hiatus. Now living in Mulino Duty now has accumulated two Super Late Model wins. Portland’s Joey Tanner was the runner-up with Kye Frick, out of Sweet Home, behind him, in third. The balance of the top five featured Bend’s Thomas Hunziker, in fourth, and fifth finishing Mclain Beaudoin, of Lebanon.
Bricen James took care of the competition in the IMCA Modifieds. The Albany gasser, James, collected his sixth Willamette win of 2019. Grey Ferrando, of Stayton, was second place while Albany’s Dustin Cady, once again in his twin brother Justin’s car, finished third. Brett James, out of Tangent and Bricen's older brother, got fourth and Steve Moore, from Scio, placed fifth.
Vahn Stone is having a bit of a blossoming in the Super Sport classification. Stone, of Scotts Mills, won his second straight victory in the division. Robert Mercer, of Salem, had a fantastic performance with a second-place result with Jefferson veteran Mike Betkar scoring third. Clyde Rood, from Lebanon, brought home a fourth-place finish while Salem’s B.J. Donofrio was fifth.
In IMCA Sport Mod action Matt Sanders took care of business. It is the first time the Brookings driver has won at Willamette Speedway this year. Central Point’s Jorddon Braaten ended his night in second while Molalla’s Travis Pruitt put together a third-place run. Isaac Sanders, also of Brookings, grabbed fourth while Roseburg’s Mike Wilcox was fifth.
Corvallis chauffeur Ryan Emry cracked of another triumph in the Sportsman main event. Emry is now a two-time winner in the division. Coburg’s Kent Emry was second while Jeff Rash, of Lebanon, placed third. Jeff Davis ended his evening in fourth, and Albany’s Stacy Kreger crossed the wire in the fifth position.
Justin Evans tacked on another win to his already impressive trophy count. The Lebanon ace has finished in first place seven individual times. McKenzie Lockhart, of Albany, finished behind Evans in second while Lebanon driver Mikey Burnham got third. The rest of the top five comprised of Kyndal Irvine, of Lebanon, in fourth followed by Brandon Crawford, from Lyons, credited with fifth.
Finally, Newport’s Matt Diller became the most recent winner in Hornet action. Cailyn Farness, from Sandy, picked up a big second-place finish over Eddie Farness, also of Sandy, in third. Jimmy Midkiff, making the long journey from Madras, was fourth while scored in the fifth spot would be Matthew Emry, of Corvallis.
Willamette Speedway returns next weekend with a couple of events. The Karts make their return after some time on Friday, August 9th. Then on Saturday, the 10th it will be another full card of racing on the big track. Six classes will inhabit the premises including the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
On Friday the Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 5:00, and Racing at 6:00. General Admission to watch in the grandstands is FREE. Saturday tickets are $14.00 for Adults, Seniors (62+)/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Kids (5 or Under) FREE with a Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) offered for $35.00.
