Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway hosted their fourth installment of racing on Saturday, May 11th, of the 2019 season. Five classes filled the pit area representing the Super Late Models, Super Sports, Sportsman, and Street Stocks.

Joey Tanner continued his dominance in the Super Late Model ranks. The Portland native lapped the entire field and cruised to his third straight win at the historical 1/3-mile clay oval. Lebanon teenager McLain Beaudoin was second over Doug Elkins, of Salem, in third. Bend driver Thomas Hunziker crossed the wire in fourth while Rob Campos, of Scio, ended his evening in fifth.

B.J. Donofrio, from Salem, got the job done in the Super Sports. It is Donofrio’s first triumph in 2019 in the division. Scott Mills’ chauffeur posted a runner-up effort with Randy Barley, of Albany, in third. Albany driver Clay Debban collected fourth while Robert Mercer, originally from Kissimmee, Florida now residing in Salem, completed the top five, in fifth.

Portland’s Brian Brown was dominant for much of the Sportsman main event. Jeff Rash made a daring last lap pass on the last corner to win by a mere 0.172 seconds for his first win of the year. Brown was a notable second and defending champion, Corvallis’ Ryan Emry, placed third. Kent Emry, of Eugene, and Lebanon’s Chad Slover rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth respectively.

A family feud erupted in the Street Stock division. Portland pilots David and Brian Cronk duked it out lap after lap. The two remained side by side for the vast majority of the time but David edged out his son for his first trip to the winner’s circle. Brian Cronk was a narrow second over Lebanon’s Mikey Burnham, in third. Charlie Culpepper, Oregon City, took home fourth while Lebanon youngster Kyndal Irvine was fifth.

Lastly, Eddie Farness of Sandy had his way in the Hornets. Farness is the second different winner in as many races in 2019 so far. Cailyn Farness, also of Sandy, finished behind Eddie, in second, with Austin Emry behind her, in third. The balance of the top five consisted of Corvallis’ Matthew Emry, getting fourth, and John Bussell, fifth.

Willamette Speedway has three separate events on tap this coming weekend. The track will host a Fast Friday on Friday, May 17th with Sporstman, Street Stocks, and Hornets racing. On Saturday, the 18th, it will be the IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Hornets on the card.
