Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway was back in action, after weather spoiled things the week previous, on Saturday, May 5th. The Fight To End Hunger Night would collect over five-hundred canned food items that were donated to the Lord’s Storehouse. Classes competing included the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets.

Rob Mayea, of Bend, would start the Super Late Model feature off on the right foot by seizing the initial lead. Before too long Portland’s Joey Tanner would creep into the picture, utilizing the inside line, and put forth a challenge. The two would do battle for the coveted the top place position.

Unfortunately, on lap twenty-two Tenner would suffer mechanical problems that would put him out of the race. It brought about an opportunity for a new challenger to try and overtake Mayea. That would be Trent Elliott of La Pine.

Elliott had a prime opportunity to make it around Mayea in lapped traffic but Mayea would make a crucial pass. Mayea would go down as the first Super Dirt Late Model feature winner of 2018.

Trent Elliott got second while Bend veteran Darren Coffell was third. Dan Deibele, of Lebanon, finished fourth over Lebanon’s Casey Vitale, in fifth.

The IMCA Modified feature would be an exciting one. For quite some time it would be a showdown between Albany’s Dustin Cady and John Campos, of Keizer. But the two drivers would receive an unfortunate stroke of bad luck when they would be collected in an incident. It would give the top spot to Corbett hot shoe Collen Winebarger. There Winebarger would remain and win for the second occasion in the class this season. Oregon City native Jeff Lovell was across the wire in second with Stayton’s Grey Ferrando behind him, in third. Completing the top five were Steve Suckow, of Hillsboro in fourth, and fifth finishing Mark Gaylord.

It wouldn’t be the only occasion that Winebarger would grace victory lane. In the Street Stocks feature Shannon Horn, out of Mulino, set the pace early. There he would remain for quite some time before Collen Winebarger, driving for his younger brother Skylar, got to the front.

Winebarger was not quite out of the woods yet as he would feel the heat from Gresham’s Kevin Roberts as the two duked it out for the win. Robert prior the main event would accept a $200.00 bonus if he could win the main event after starting in the back. On the final circuit Winebarger and Roberts would make brief contact with one another and Winebarger would win the drag race to the stripe.

Kevin Roberts was a noble second with Shannon Horn third. Dakota Godard, of Corvallis, pulled of a fourth place finish and Jasper’s Andrew Langan completed the top five with a fifth place result.

In Hornet competition Dexter native James Donaldson would handle the field and take care of business. Springfield’s K.C. Scott was behind Donaldson in second with Boden Lindberg third. Andrew Wright and Dom Conti were fourth and fifth respectively.
