Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway is ready for one of its biggest events of the 2016 calendar, the prestigious Clair Cup. This race is ran in memory of longtime track owner and operator Clair Arnold who sadly passed away in April of 2009. Saturday, July 2nd will kick everything off and the grand finale will wrap the weekend up on Sunday the 3rd. The Super Late Models will be the headliner of the weekend with some of the best chauffeurs in the Western United States making the journey to the historic 1/3-mile clay oval.
Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, and Super Sports will be on the card for both nights while the Sportsman and Hornets will be in attendance on Saturday only and Sunday the Street Stocks make their only appearance over the two days.
Tickets for each event are $14.00 for Adults, Juniors/Seniors/Military $10.00, Youths $5.00, and a Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) $35.00. The times for both nights are Front Gates open at 3:30 PM and Racing kicks off at 6:30. And drivers we want to let you know that the pit meeting has been moved up to 3:30 PM for each day.
In the Super Late Models there has yet to be a repeat winner. Five races has produced five different winners including Rob Mayea, Collen Winebarger, Joey Tanner, Justin Duty, and defending Clair Cup champ Brian Cronk. It is going to be very interesting to see how the local competition will defend their home turf against the travelers from down south.
In the IMCA Modifieds John Campos remains as the only guy to have visited victory lane twice in 2016. Collen Winebarger, Matthew Drager, and Kyle Yeack are all one-time winners at this point. Will there be new winners produced out of the two nights or will some of the drivers who have tasted success add to their win total?
There have been two drivers who have been quite successful in this year’s Super Sport division. Brian Thompson earned his third triumph of the season last weekend while Randy Barley has won twice. Will a new face emerge victorious, will Thompson increase his win amount, or will Barely win victory number three?
The same story can be stated in the Sportsman ranks. But it has been practically all Tom Yeack finishing in first. Yeack has made four trips to the winner’s circle while Jeff Rash is the only guy to have beaten him and that was on just one occasion.
In the Street Stocks there have been a fair amount of different winner this year. Justin Evans has recorded two wins while the single victor list includes Jody Tanner, Mikey Brakeall, Kevin Roberts, Andrew Langan, Chris Sine, and Shannon Horn.
Lasty, the Hornets have seen just two different winners. Tracy Muse has four wins while Rowe Lovvorn has managed to capture just two.
Also don’t forget about the Tuesday July 5th Speedweek Northwest date which will feature some of the 360 Sprint Car drivers in the world. Tickets for this race are $16.00 for Adults, Seniors/Juniors (13-17)/Military $13.00, Youths (6-12) $8.00, and Kids (5 and Under) FREE. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
