Willamette Completes Exciting Second Kart Race Of 2015
By Ben Deatherage
Willamette Speedway would finally get the second race of the Kart season in the books on Friday June 5th. It would be the first occasion since May 1st since the season opener for the program. Some good racing would be put on display for the crowd on hand.

Colin Mendez from Salem would lead the entire feature in the Pee Wee ranks. It would be the first win of the season for the driver of the Fricken Tool Company/Chaos Customs/Queen Nails Elite #45C QRC. Creswell's Piper Hanson was second in her SKS Racing/Hanson Contract Cutting #77H QRC and the Big Sky Landscaping/Checkered Flag Paving & Sealcoating/SharkShifter.com/Scofield's Karts & Parts #6A QRC of Clackamas native Keegan Asher was third.

Makayla Patterson would dominate in 5HP Intermediate main event. The young lady from Albany would lead every single lap of the feature to win her first race of the season in the King Office Equipment/Water To Go/James Gang Pizza/Rebekha's Barber Shop #26 QRC. The Collen Winebarger Racing/Duty's Machine Shop #ZERO QRC of Brayden Brookshire, out of Forest Grove, was second.

Makayla's brother Carter was also fast in the 5HP Open feature. Patterson, in his King Office Equipment/Water To Go/James Gang Pizza/Rebekha's Barber Shop #47 QRC, got the lead early but lost it after getting out of shape in turns one and two. Eugene's Seth Riggs would be the new leader in the Riggs Racing #32 Hubbard. But after a restart due to a caution Patterson would get the lead back and score his first win of the year. Seth Riggs was second and ending the night third would be the Fonfara Racing #88 QRC of Jerry Fonfara from Keizer.

In the 125cc race it was all about Lebanon youngster Kyle Roles. Roles, driving the Knothole Market/James Gang Pizza/Big Sky Landscaping/Bunce Equipment #02 SGC, would be out in front every single lap to win his second race at Willamette this year. Dustin Asher, in his Big Sky Landscaping/Checkered Flag Paving & Sealcoating/SharkShifter.com/Scofield's Karts & Parts #6A QRC, got second and the PGH Excavating #4L QRC of McKenna, Washington's Lane Taylor was third.

The 250cc main was an entertaining one. Conner Hanson from Creswell would grab the lead on the opening lap in his SKS Racing/Hanson Contract Cutting #55H QRC machine. But the PGH Excavating/RFC Karts/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop #19 RFC of Enumclaw, Washington's Colby Thornhill would pass Hanson and stay in the position the rest of the way to win the feature. It was his first victory of the season.

Conner Hanson got second followed by the Oregon Outlaws Speedshop/Luck O' Johnny/Old Black Daddy Foster Care #151 RFC of Portland pilot Duke Johnson. Gresham's Talyn Roberts was fourth in her Big Sky Landscaping/Powers Transport/Scofield's Kart & Parts #T3 QRC while the Crocker's Cars/McGriff Motorsports/Lucas Oil Products #04 RFC of Brody Sim from Albany.

Finally the Open Kage main event Eric Scofield would dominate. Scofield, of Albany and driving the Scofield's Karts & Parts/Human Bean Coffee/Lassen RV #37 QRC Area51, managed to keep himself out in front despite several restarts due to a fair amount of cautions. Scofield would win his first race of the season.

Kevin Hilgendorf of Cottage Grove was second in the R.S. Race Products/Kanopy Kountry/Chris Rolfe Motorsports #22 RFC followed by the Hazen Racing #10JR QRC driven by Bend's Cory Hazen in third. Vancouver, Washington young gun Kyle Cormican, in his Schram Brothers Excavating/RSR Racecraft/James Gang Pizza/Xtreme Motorsports #41 QRC, while fifth would go to Leonard Waterman from Bend in the Denture Inn #111 QRC.
