Willamette Speedway would have another entertaining Kart race on Friday July 18th. The facility had a full pit area as well as a loaded lineup of talent with teams coming from the states of Oregon, Washington, and California as well as the Canadian province of Alberta.

In the 5HP Intermediate main event Cottage Grove’s Austin Sause would pick up the win. It would mark the sixth time of the season that the pilot of the Harbaugh Clutches #7 QRC has visited victory lane.

The Pee Wee feature would be an entertaining one as Trevor Grimes of Medford took the early race lead. Grimes, in the Grimes Racing Engines #100 RFC, had some fast company trying to overtake him. One of the drivers would be Coos Bay’s Jayden Trupp in his Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobacco & More/Trupp Family Race Team #72 QRC.

Trupp would try and make a move high and low but each and every time Grimes would keep him in check. Grimes would win the race putting an end to Trupp’s win streak of five wins in a row.

Jayden Trupp was second followed by the Highoctane Diecast/James Gang Pizza/Burris Racing Tires #64M QRC of Madison Basile from Gladstone. Makayla Patterson of Lebanon was fourth in her James Gang Pizza/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebekah’s Barber Shop/King Office Equipment #47 QRC and in fifth would be the P.G.H. Excavating/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop/R.S. Race Products #20 RFC driven by Taylor Thornhill of Buckley, Washington.

Leading the entire distance of the Rookie Speedway Kart feature was Keizer’s Jerry Fonfara. It would mark the fourth win of the campaign for Fonfara and his Fonfara Racing #88 Trackmagic machine. Jayden Kimball of Keizer would end the evening in second chauffeuring the Bob’s OK Tire/G&S Machine #17 while third went to the Fonfara Racing #18 Emmick of Chloe Fonfara, also from Keizer and Jerry’s sister.

The 250cc main event would be a caution filled affair but despite all of the stoppages was an entertaining race. Seizing the lead on the opening circuit and keeping his mount out in front the entire distance was Vancouver, Washington’s Kyle Cormican. Cormican, in his Schram Brothers Excavating/Xtreme Motorsports/James Gang Pizza/RSR Racercraft #113 RFC, would visit the winner’s circle for the second occasion of 2014.

Crossing the wire in second would be Tyler Thompson from Harrisburg in the Bunce Equipment/Village Green Resort/BC Motorsports/Rocket Designs #77 RFC while the Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop/Wilson’s NAPA Auto Parts #199 RFC of Christian Osbourn out of Boring was third. Completing the top five would be the Burke’s Metal Recycling/The Knothole Market #48C QRC of Lebanon’s Custin Jones in fourth and fifth would go to Castro Valley, California native Ryan Williams in his Rossi Racing #6R QRC.

Leading the entire distance of the 125cc main event would be a familiar face and so far making a big splash in this class has been Connor Hanson from Creswell. Hanson would dominate the field to put his Hanson Contract Cutting/DT Motorsports/BC Motorsports/Horner’s Inc. #55H QRC in victory lane for the third time this year.

The Linn-Benton Insurance/A.A. Towing/James Gang Pizza #47 QRC of Trinity Pendley out of Albany was second and behind her in third was teammate McKenzie Lockhart who is also from Albany and pilots the Linn-Benton Insurance/A.A. Towing/James Gang Pizza #29 QRC. Coming home in fourth was the Checkered Flag Asphalt Paving & Sealcoating/Kelly’s Café/McCord Trucking/E&L Motorsports #6A QRC of Oregon City native Dustin Asher followed by Lebanon’s Kyle Roles in his The Knothole Market/Bunce Equipment/Big Sky Landscaping #02 QRC in fifth.

Melissa Aicher from Keizer would win for the second time in the Adult Speedway Karts. She would have some issues in her first heat race but managed to get her Bob’s OK Tire/G&S Machine #4 Trackmagic entry back out for the feature.

In the debut of the new 125/250cc class Albany’s Brody Sim would take care of business. Sim, in his Lucas Oil Products/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center/Jerry’s Precision Muffler/Ultrashield Race Products #04 QRC, would pick up his first win at Willamette in his first appearance.

Winning for the fourth time of the year in the 5HP Open would be Lebanon youngster Carter Patterson. Patterson had to keep some fast competition behind him at various points of the feature but got the job done when it was all said and done. It has been quite the season for Patterson and the James Gang Pizza/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebekah’s Barber Shop/King Office Equipment #47 QRC team.

Grand Prairie, Alberta’s Benjamin Silliker would place in the runner-up position in his Black Dog Drilling/QRC Karts/Sillico Racing #24 QRC with Samantha Packard of Bend in third in her Black Bear Diner/Pyrotect/Double Tap Firearms/Van Raden Industries #21 QRC. The Riggs Racing #32 Hubbard of Seth Riggs from Eugene would end the night fourth and Hunter Gilman out of Cornelius was fifth in the Gilman Racing #3G QRC.

Last but not least it would be a nail biter of an Open Kage main event. Brenden Waterman from Bend would grab the lead on the opening start in his High Desert Hydraulics/Schram Brothers Excavating/Xtreme Motorsports/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop #29W RFC. Like the 250cc main event several cautions would occur resulting in several restarts.

Each time Waterman would master the starts but on the long green flag runs Philomath’s Briley Pompe would whittle down the lead and mounted a challenge only for a yellow to come out. Waterman would keep Pompe behind him each time as he would win his first victory of the season.

Briley Pompe in his X-Factor Race Cars/The Storage Depot #49 QRC was second and Casey Starr of Sherwood would place her R.S. Race Products/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop/P.G.H. Excavating/Big Sky Landscaping #13* RFC in third. The rest of the top five would consist of Lebanon’s Cory Yeack in fourth piloting the Unlimited Business Services/Cascade Outdoor Power & Equipment #15 Hubbard while in fifth was R.J. Johnson from Roseville, California in the Jason Silliker owned Black Dog Drilling/QRC Karts/Sillico Racing #24 QRC.

The Kart return to Willamette Speedway on Friday August 1st in what will be the final point event before the Summer Sizzle Tour date. For more information be sure and visit www.trophymotorsports.com.
