Knecht’s Auto Parts Fan Appreciation Night On Tap For Willamette

Knecht’s Auto Parts Fan Appreciation Night On Tap For Willamette
By Ben Deatherage
Lebanon, Oregon- There will be a ton of action at Willamette Speedway this Saturday June 8th for Fan Appreciation Night presented by Knecht’s Auto Parts. On Friday the 7th the Karts will be in action to the weekend off for what should be a good show. Saturday the track will dedicate time to bring every single race car in the pits out on the racing surface and let fans get up close and personal with their favorite drivers and teams. All six classes will be in competition which includes the DIRTcar Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mini Trucks.

“We’re using this unique format so fans can have has much time with the drivers and get the races done by curfew,” commented Chris Nofziger, General Manager of Willamette Speedway, “the night will all be about the fans especially those that don’t get to visit the pits after the races. Big thanks to Knecht’s Auto Parts for sponsoring this awesome event.”

The night will have a unique format. All classes will group qualify with the fastest eight or twelve (depending on the car count in the class) qualifiers getting locked into the dash. After the completion of the dashes the track will be cleared and all cars brought out for fans to visit with the drivers. Several teams will have photograph cards to hand out and are always up to signing autographs or posing for pictures.

All cars competing in the dash will redraw for starting positions in the main event. The dash winner will get the chance to draw first followed by second place, third place, etc. Non-dash cars will start heads up, based off of their qualifying times, behind the cars that participated in the dash.

In five main events there have been three different winners in the DIRTcar Super Late Model division. Trevor Glaser is the only repeat winner with a total of three features including last Saturday’s Strawberry Cup. Joey Tanner and Russ Sell are the two other winners thus far this year with a single victory so far.

The IMCA Modified classification has had five races with five different winners. That list includes Mark Carrell, Kyle Yeack, Jeffrey Rivers, Dustin Dittman, and last week’s winner Jesse Williamson. Gil Pickett leads the win column in the Super Sports. Pickett has two wins while both Bob Jeffrey and Brian Smith each have one.

The Sportsman class returns to action after a week hiatus. Todd Miller is the only repeat winner with two triumphs while two other drivers have visited the winner’s circle once, Clyde Rood and Jeff Marson. Despite not winning last week David Cronk still leads the Street Stocks for most wins with three over Bricen James and Justin Evans who have one win apiece. Last week Don Croy became the first driver to win more than once in 2013 in the Mini Trucks. Kenny Keefer is the only driver so far that has managed to earn a triumph in the division.

General admission to the Friday Kart race event will be FREE of charge. Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $30.00. The pit gates open up around 4:00 PM and racing is scheduled to begin around 6:30.

Saturday the pit gates will open at 1:00 PM, front gates 3:30 PM, and racing should be getting started around 6:00 PM. Admission prices are Adults $14.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $12.00, Youths (12 and Under) $6.00, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Youths) $35.00, and Pit Passes are $25.00.
