26 Promotions – Irwindale, CA – (August 28, 2018) – Dylan Cappello scored his fifth top-five finish last Saturday night during the second round of the Spillvak Triple Crown at Irwindale Speedway.

“During Friday’s practice we started out slow and struggled to find speed on older tires,” he explained. “We were still pretty good compared to the other cars making fast laps and decided to bolt on new rubber to see the gains we could possibly make. We were able to make a couple of last minute changes that helped the car a ton and helped our long run lap times.”

Cappello ended Friday’s practice session as one of the top cars and began thinking about the changes he and his Team RBK crew members would make for qualifying on Saturday.

“Unloading Saturday, we kept a similar game plan and car setup to where we ended on Friday but loosened the car up in order to fire off a quick lap for qualifying,” he said. “The mock qualifying run put us on top of the board and gave us confidence going into qualifying.”

The Hitman laid down the fourth fastest lap in qualifying, which put him in position to make the draw. With a three pulled for the invert, Cappello’s starting position for the feature would be unchanged, but he would be in the Quick 6 Dash before the 75-lap main event.

“Starting third in the dash, we were going for the win, and we’ve seemed to have good luck this season in these dash situations,” said Cappello. “I was able to make a move to the bottom of the race track and pass second and first on lap four and went on to win by about five car-lengths for our third K & N Trophy Dash win of the season.”

After a successful outing in the Quick 6 Dash, Cappello and his team went back to work getting the car setup for the 75-lap feature event where he would start on the outside on the second row.

“The game plan was to save tires, but still stay within striking distance of the leaders,” explained Cappello. “A long green flag run allowed me to settle into third-place for the first half of the race. With not enough forward bite, we struggled to make moves on other cars and simply put, we had a fourth-place car. A tight battle for third after a late-race restart with veteran Scott Winters was fun, but we came up a bit short.”

Cappello took the checkers in fourth securing his fifth top-five finish in seven Lucas Oil Modified Series starts this season.

“It has been frustrating being a tick off lately, but I know our team can bounce back to our winning ways late in the season,” he said. “I just want to thank my whole crew and sponsors for giving me this opportunity and supporting me.”

The Hitman returns to action on September 15th at Orange Show Speedway.

Dylan Cappello would like to thank Geico, Quick Response Garage Doors, Spray Nine, Driven Motorsports, Team RBK, Pro Power Racing Engines, Total Power Batteries, Roger Seymour Photography, and Bilstein Shocks for their support.
