Inside Line Promotions – OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (Sept. 20, 2017) – Alex Hill returned to competition last weekend for the first time in almost six weeks to compete at the biggest race of the year at her home track – the two-day Canadian Sprint Car Nationals hosted by Ohsweken Speedway.

It marked only the third weekend of racing for Hill since being injured in a crash at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, in May. Despite her lack of recent track time, Hill got off to a solid start on Friday evening, racing to a second-place finish in her heat race after starting fourth. That placed her third on the starting grid for one of the evening’s two A Mains.

“The car was really fast and I was able to get the lead on the second lap,” she said. “I was leading when there was a red flag on Lap 4.

“(Crew chief) Daryl told me during the red that I wasn’t high enough on the track. So I went higher on the restart, but I got just a little bit too high and went over the edge. The back bumper got knocked off and they couldn’t push my car to restart it so I was finished for the night. It was frustrating. I thought I had a chance of winning that race.”

Hill was credited with a 13th-place result. She also placed eighth during the Kevin Ward Jr. Young Stars Challenge that night.

The event wrapped up on Saturday when Hill ended sixth in a heat race after starting third. That placed her in the seventh starting spot in one of the B Mains, in which she finished fifth.

“That was kind of frustrating, too,” she said. “I missed making the A Feature by one spot.”

Although both nights had disappointments, Hill also took away some positives from the weekend.

“I was upset after Friday night,” she said. “But I did get some confidence back that night by passing Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) and then passing another car for the lead and leading for a little bit. That helped, especially since I hadn’t raced for so long.”

Hill will return to the track this Thursday through Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the 7th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
