Inside Line Promotions – MERCER, Pa. (May 5, 2015) – Caleb Helms had several bright moments last weekend during a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader in Western Pennsylvania.

Helms kicked off the weekend by qualifying 10th quickest overall and third fastest in his group on Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, where he had only competed three times prior to this past weekend.

Helms then won his heat race and finished fourth in the dash to line up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“I think we tightened up too much,” he said. “We went the wrong way and were out of it in the feature. But just getting laps around the place and figuring stuff out was important.”

Helms battled for a top 10 throughout the race before he posted a 12th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park, where Helms qualified 25th quickest and eighth in his group. That started him toward the back of his heat race, which he placed eighth in to be relegated to the B Main.

“We missed it pretty bad in qualifying,” he said. “It wasn’t like anything we’ve been on this year, slick and flat. We were out to lunch in qualifying and then got some things going in the heat race and the B Main.”

Helms drove into a transfer early in the consolation race, but the move was erased when the yellow flag was waved before a lap had been completed since the pass.

“One of the guys I had passed moved into the line I was running, which was smart on his part,” he said. “I just couldn’t get back around those guys to get a transfer.”

Helms was forced to use his first All Stars provisional of the season after placing seventh in the B Main. That started him last – 25th – in the main event.

“We got a lap down early and they had a yellow as soon as I got lapped,” he said. “I had to go to the tail and then every car I passed after that didn’t matter. I felt like we made a big stride even though the result doesn’t show it.”

Helms was credited with a 23rd-place finish. He ranks 13th in the All Stars championship standings, but is only 44 points out of the top 10.

Helms is slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
