Starks Earns Top-Five Result During Ultimate ASCS Challenge

Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 8, 2018) – Trey Starks produced his best result during Iowa Speedweeks on Tuesday at Southern Iowa Speedway during the Sage Fruit Ultimate ASCS Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company.
Starks opened the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com event by maneuvering from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. That missed a spot into the feature redraw by only two positions and lined him up 10th for the main event.
“We had a good car and were able to make progress throughout the race,” he said. “That’s not an easy track to pass on so whenever you can go forward and earn a top five it’s a good night.”
Starks finished fifth, which was his 10th top five of the season.
He began his busy week in Iowa last Friday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville during the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank. The Gobrecht Motorsports driver qualified eighth quickest out of nearly 50 competitors. A fifth-place result in a heat race missed locking into the A Main by only one position and it relegated him to the B Main, which he won to start near the rear of the field.
“We knew we had to drive toward the top 10 to have any chance at locking into Saturday’s main event,” he said. “The guys gave me a great car and we made the most of the situation. It’s only a 20-lap race so there’s no room for error.”
Starks rallied from 21st to an 11th-place finish. That ranked him 20th in overall points out of more than 90 drivers to garner the 20th-and-final lock-in position into Saturday’s A Main.
“We made some progress early and were just outside the top 10, but it was tough to really make up a lot of ground,” he said. “When you’re back there in dirty air it can be a challenge and we began battling some mechanical problems so we weren’t able to get the finish we aimed for.”
Starks, who was credited with a 20th-place result, returned to Knoxville Raceway on Sunday for the 7th annual Weld Racing Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank. He timed in 19th quickest in his group and placed seventh in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. A 14th-place finish capped the action for Starks, who was sidelined early the following night because of mechanical problems at Southern Iowa Speedway during the Sage Fruit Front Row Challenge presented by Musco Lighting.
Starks will return to action during the 58th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores this Wednesday through Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
