TRIO OF NEW TRACKS HIGHLIGHT WAR WILDCARD ADVENTURE TO WISCONSIN AND IOWA!
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 31, 2018) - More barriers are set to broken within the next week as the undeniable recent growth and expansion of the Lucas Oil POWRi WAR Sprint Car League continues. Making the League's inaugural appearance in Wisconsin and Iowa, racers will encounter three new facilities as the WAR Wildcard season hits full stride. Tackling a Badger State doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday at Wilmot Raceway and then Angell Park Speedway, the League then takes a day off before hitting the Southern Iowa Speedway for the "Ultimate Challenge" on Tuesday night.
"It's always exciting to take our group to new places, especially tracks with so much history behind them," stated WAR Sprint League Director, Casey Shuman. "We are really looking forward to bringing some exciting non-wing racing back to the fans in Wisconsin and Iowa."
Opening the three-race slate on Saturday, August 4th, a rare northern adventure will occur as the Indianapolis headquarters are left for a two-day trip to Wisconsin. Joining the IRA Sprint Cars for a Saturday showdown, the WAR Wildcard Sprints will see Wilmot, Wisconsin's Wilmot Raceway for the first time. Located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds, Wilmot was built in the early 1970's and has been a thriving facility since. A 3/8th-mile, semi-banked clay oval with plenty of room for action, racers and fans should be treated to a thrilling show in the League's first visit.
Concluding the Badger State doubleheader on Sunday, August 5th, the WAR Wildcard Sprints will compete at one of the most historic and most iconic dirt track venues to grace this country. Heading about 100 miles to the northwest of Wilmot, you'll find Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and there lies Angell Park Speedway. Owned by the Sun Prairie Fire Department since the donation of land in 1903, auto racing was first held at the track in 1939. A 1/3rd-mile oval with limited banking, the WAR Sprints will be the latest in a long list of famous sanctions to hit the track at Angell Park that also includes the World of Outlaws and POWRi National Midgets.
Following a day off on Monday, the League will reconvene on Tuesday, August 7th for an appearance at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Joining the ASCS National Sprint Cars for the "Ultimate Challenge," the WAR Sprints will run on the largest track of their 2018 season. A daunting half-mile, Osky will test all with only the bravest and boldest competitors rising to the top.
With six races in the books and six races remaining for the WAR Wildcard Sprints, Landon Simon of Brownsburg, IN sits atop the standings with 824 points by virtue of finishing inside the top five in every race. Trailing Simon entering this weekend is Korey Weyant (-81) of Springfield, IL, Mitch Wissmiller (-131) of Saybrook, IL, Terry Babb (-187) of Decatur, IL, and Mario Clouser (-283) of Auburn, IL.
