Lucas Oil Speedway plays host to 13th annual Hockett-McMillin Memorial starting on Thursday

WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 11, 2023) - What's become an annual reunion for top sprint-car drivers and fans from throughout the land fires up the 2023 version on Thursday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, all the while paying tribute to two icons of the sport.

The 13th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial is a three-night crown jewel event featuring the best of the American Sprint Car Series winged cars and the POWRi WAR wingless sprints.

"This even just continues to grow, year after year, and we look forward to a great three nights of open-wheel action," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said. "Fans from all over the country put this on their schedules and make it a must-see race weekend with large fields of cars."

The Hockett-McMillin Memorial recognizes the legacy of Jesse Hockett, from Warsaw, Mo., who was a star in both the winged and non-wing sprint divisions when he lost his life in a shop accident in 2010. His cousin and crew chief, Daniel McMillin, was killed in an automobile accident in 2006.

The event attracts such a large field of cars that both the ASCS winged sprint and POWRi WAR divisions will split the field of entries and run full programs the first two nights, with $3,000-to-win features for the winged cars and $2,000 for the wingless. Drivers will earn points each time they hit the track Thursday and Friday nights to help determine their starting position for the final night.

The finales on Saturday night, following last-chance qualifiers and B-Mains will be $10,000 for the ASCS winner and $4,077 for the WAR first-place finisher.
